Race Unique Bonuses
I hate they took away racial unique stat bonuses. There is no way you can convince me a halfling barb starts with the same strength as a half-orc barb. I hope they bring it back, it really helps with choosing a character.

I agree, there is no way Dwarves should even be able to cast magic.

I think it's better this way. I don't feel constrained to a particular species to make a particular build. If you compare this to other CRPG's and the build culture they have, certain species are either necessary of vastly over-represented in order to be competitive. This is seemingly not going to be an issue in BG3.

We need to wait for mod and then for Larian patch that will provide option for it

Write Larian a letter. Posting on the Steam forums isn't going to change it.

Thats what made DnD, DN FING D! You wouldn't make it through any of the original IE games, scrub.

To be competetive in single player game?
1. If you are unable to survive without +2 in main stat that is on your minmaxing attitude.
2. Optimal choices still exist. Darkvision, advantages on mental saving throws, lucky. There is no point for minmaxer to EVER take human. And for people doing RP because human is just bland and pointless.

And yet D&D has changed over the years in myriad ways. Having played every game, and most P&P versions, I'm very comfortable with this change to attributes.

I mean competitive in a relative sense. Good compared to another powerful build someone has come up with. Or good compared to the hardest difficulties and mods.

Your point about optimal choices persisting is well taken. But the variation between optimum versus not is much smaller. Taking dark vision or lucky is helpful but wont make or break the build at the numbers level.

I agree, the go to for any type of melee, str or dex, is pretty much a Half Orc. They really took away a lot of having to really think about how you are going to build your character.

This has strong "you wouldn't survive in a COD lobby" energy.

Amen. Only modders can fix this now or if they implement it in the game as an update.

At the numbers level lucky doesn't play role? As in "reroll one"? Advantages on INT,WIS,CHA saving throws doesn't play role? BUT +2 DOES? How good is your math?
Given how many people are complaining about the racial stats, they may actually include it in the game eventually as a toggle. But I wouldn't expect it to be soon. Probably in the definitive edition like Larian usually does. I like roleplaying more than min-maxing combat, so I don't really care about this change. It's the same at the tables i've played, more RP focused so the DM will allow for unique but unusual char ideas, like a barbarian halfling lol

To be fair to Larian, I believe WotC made them change the racial stats to be more like the most current version of DnD they are pushing out. EA had the OG racial stat system.

Its cool and good to have build choices that make a character more or less effective. But your feat selection or whatever is just not the same as your species selection. The former does not significantly affect your roleplay. The latter defines your roleplay to a significant degree.

If the statline choices we've lost with this change are re-inserted, it wouldn't necessarily be a bad thing. But it's strictly better that they're not attached to species choice, one of your most meaningful roleplay decisions.

Thinkin I might ask how good is your reading. I didn't say "doesn't play a role." I said it wont make or break the build.
Take a breath my dude.
