Everything in Act 1 and 2 does NOT work as far as knocking NPCs out is concerned.
The surefire way to ensure she lives of course is to take the evil option and choose to side with the goblins and attack the emerald grove.
If you want to recruit her though you can only do that if you side with the goblins and attack the emerald grove.
Knocking out Minthara DOES NOT work. Only current way to recruit her is to avoid the conflict like the others have been saying.
Knocking her out will not work in the purpose of her recruitment in act 2 , she won't show up in the second act that way.
You saying that the only way to recruit her is to destroy the grove but it's a lie.
Knocking somebody out only works in a few quests in the game. For example knocking out works with one potential companion in 3 act , don't want to spoiler you. In this case, the outcome of the quest will be decided by the fact that non-lethal attacks are turned On or Off. It THAT case game actually consider that person is stunned\knocked\whatever but not DEAD and u can talk to him further.
But with Minthara that won't work yet at least. There must be a patch for her and other npc.
So we have 2 options to have her in team: help her to destroy the grove (as the absolute tells her) or walk away in act 2 , like other companions (Shadowheart\Astarion\Lae'zel) says "it's not our problem , we are guests here , lets finish our biz here and move on".
Minthara and Halsin are not the only persons who knew about Moonrise tower. There also a Gith path and u can find them by you own without anybody.
You can even save some NPC in gobbos camp including Halsin before doing so. That wont be a problem to finding her later in towers.
But there will be another problems with that way. As i said some NPC including Minthara are needed major patch. Some npc and some quest decisions are tied to each other in a stupid and illogical ways of bad coding.
For my first playthrough i choose that way (no siege) and have no regrets. I enjoy the game anyway , and i think that companions like Minthara is what needed to finish of great evil.
Do you need Kagha alive to initiate the druids against the tieflings? Though I believe I've seen people say the tieflings abandon the grove regardless and get killed on the road if you don't specifically kill all the goblin leaders.

I suppose the next question is, can you recruit Minthara and Halsin in the same run? I can't imagine Halsin playing ball if you helped Minthara murder the whole grove.
No because Halsin doesn't join if you destroyed the grove.
