So.. is it basically Divinity Original Sin 3?
I ask because I somewhat understood Divinity Original Sin 2 pretty well and was able to finish it. I know next to nothing about DnD but if its pretty similar in its structure to DOS2 then I think this is a game I can enjoy. I just see people keep bringing up DnD5e and it makes me a little intimidated. I know there are dice rolls in the game thats fine and it looks like for combat abilities, some you can use as much as you want (mostly looking at spells here) and others once a day or maybe twice a day. That makes sense to me I think. Idk how often you can rest though.

whats to be intimidated by? dnd5e just means it follows the dungeons and dragons 5th edition rules and 5th edition is the most popular of dnd due to its streamline, ease of use and friendliness to new players

I've heard that but still - I don't know much about DnD so thats why to me, I wonder how much I will grasp is all.
Land Aug 4, 2023 @ 6:53am
You'll grasp it incredibly easy.
Neverwinter Nights, Baldurs Gate, Icewind Dale even Pathfinder series are all quite similar in design and gameplay.
This is just a new ruleset compared to the older ones but still largely play similar to those.

edit: Pillars 1+2 also play the same (they have different rulesets, feats and spells but functionally play the same)

Well I have no idea about D&D other than the cartoon series from the 80's and playing Gauntlet (yes, I know...) but I'm doing ok after 3.5 hours. The dice rolls appears to be for skills checks, I've been successful in a few and unsuccessful in others but hasn't stopped me from progressing.

Played a bit of Divinity 1 so I'm vaguely familiar with the game style...

DOS2 combat mechanics with DnD rules. It's easy, just jump in and you'll be right at home after an hour or two.

Not really. It doesn't have much from DOS2 except elemental reactions, which are harder to perform and matter less. Grease + Fire explosions are in D&D too. You'll definitely want to learn how D&D works to understand the probability system as things won't basically autohit and there's no magic stat to improve for accuracy. Primary way of bettering your chance to hit is by using an attack the enemy is weak against, which means at least understanding how saving throws work.
yes, plays like it, feels like it, looks like it (color scheme, character design, etc.) mechanics are 'inspired by' DnD - but nature and possibilities of interacting with the world, over-world design, quests, etc. Pretty much what I'd expect from DoS3.

Thank you everyone. I also enjoyed Pillars of Eternity 1/2, though I did play turn base mode in POE2 haha.

Depends what you mean by that.
Combat design wise hell no.

The only things the same are its TB top down with 4 members. Its very restrictive. In every other area of combat its nothing like div.

Theres no mana, no saving action points and doing crazy combos, gear is no where close to the same, skills are used differently.

This will be nothing like Div 3 in that regard. Story and exploration wise though, ya its the same. Dont jump in expecting another div 2 combat wise just because all these people are saying “100% yes”.

Its definitely not 100%. Maybe 60%. And if you only care about the rpg tb combat aspect, maybe like 25% or less.

I like this game but I have to doubt all these yes ppl as if they ever even finished DOS2 on tact or HC. People really need to stop pretending the 2 games are so much alike when theyre not

Yes. If you liked D:OS then this being the "same" is a good thing.
Metadigital Aug 4, 2023 @ 7:51am
It has similarities to Divinity, as it's the same dev team, but it's not exactly the same. Way less focus on floor effects and puzzles. More focus on roleplaying. Feels like a really polished, but just released 21st century crpg.

I think what makes it feel like D:OS2 is that you open with having a thing forcefully attached to you on a ship, the ship crashes, you end up on a beach, and then start a quest to remove the thing from you and your companions. Same story beats with a different aesthetic. Doesn't mean the game is the same, but it does give it a very similar feel at first.

No it's not DOS3 which is a damn shame, I'd have probably enjoyed DOS3 much more than this. I loved DOS 1 and 2 but I absolutely hate the combat in this game give me AP over this DnD nonsense any day.
