I don't use HDD's at all anymore, i'm using only SSD's for years now. All my external storage are also SSD's.

Not only do I use SATA but also M.2. My oldest SSD is a Samsung, which I have for like 10 years. I got it tested, and it was still 92% healthy.

SSD's are also way more stable as HDD's. There are no rotating disc's inside your computer, which makes storage way more stable, safer and trustworthy.

SSD's are not only ment for speed, but also reliability.

Multiple HDD's died that I owned, the amount of SSD's that I owned and died are 0. I'm going to build a new computer soon again, buy some newer and faster SSD's again and my old onces are going in a case, for external storage. Or use it aswell in my new computer for extra storage.

I upgraded the SSD on my rig a few months ago precisely to play this game. Depending on where you live, it can be surprisingly affordable to get 1 or even 2 tb of SSD space.

Good quality speed HDD can work just fine even for todays gaming.
Speed of such drives is around 180mb/s which is more then enough for heavy texture streaming. You can always test your drive and see how it performs. Speed between 125-180 is low high range. Below that is not recommended.
Western Digital Black comes to mind.

Mate I just bought a Toshiba external SSD. Speed: about 850 mb/s. Then I measured the speed of my internal HDD: 150 mb/s. The conclusions are yours...

What's your point?
Texture streaming do not require 800+mb/s
~150mb/s is more then enough. HDD speed varies from 125-180. Toshiba is western digital company. With inferior chip compared to Black WD. Anyway why am i discussing this with you?

Anyway , this game from what i have seen have "slow hdd mod" option. Which if turned on will utilize RAM for texture loading if game loading is slow.
Do not fret just play and it will be fine

I play it on HDD and i got none problems in anywhere so far, and i have played over 12 hours so far, i just put that slow hdd mode on and thats it... So far havent noticed any FPS drops or stutterin, and my PC only meets minimum requirements
(Motherboard : Asus X 99 2
Processor : Intelcore I76800k
Ram : 16GB Kingston hyper x fury ddr4 3200mhz
GPU : Asus phoenix GTX1660 oc)
.. Still run ultra/high settings on stable 61FPS on 1080p,, And i have locked those FPS to 61 with NVDIA control panel, it runs actually about 70-80FPS with my rig without that lock, but my GPU temperatures run over 80c without lockin FPS and with lock on temperature is under 75c so.....

I don't think any dev thinks about hard drives anymore when they make their video games. HDDs are for storing static data nowadays, they are too slow to run anything that requires anything but light to moderate disk usage. If a game happens to be able to run fast enough on a hard drive, then that's nice. But for real, you NEED to have an SSD nowadays, they aren't very expensive anymore and they are leagues ahead in performance. They are the modern standard, using HDDs for applications nowadays is like using DVDs for data storage when flash drives became widespread and cheap.

HDD is for people who enjoy suffering. Or only play webrowser stuff... get something for your M.2 Slot.

Not tech guy - current SSD was only 120GB as I did not realized BG3 was recommending or requiring SSD- but it super easy/ fairly cheap to upgrade to SSD 1 TB / best buy & amazon/- youtube videos /samsung software transfer/clone did not work ( frustrating) so got free macrium software and transfer happened in 30 minutes- installation was very easy
