Character creator is awful?

8 face presets to choose from and you can't edit anything? In a mid 2023 game?

Is that some kind of a joke? I have no idea how stuff like this gets approved. And if I remember early access version of this game actually had MORE options to choose from. What happened, why did they cut it?

EDIT: The point of the thread: any game in which you can create your own character, that has face presets instead of sliders should be condemned and left on the outskirts of history.

Preaching to the choir. Mass Effect, a game that came out for console FIFTEEN years ago, had much, much better character customization on every level, barring genitals. No excuse for this on Larian's part.

Why are you getting clown rewards? It's a fact that the physical customization is lacking and people stating this game is miles ahead with it compared to any other game clearly never played a lot of (RPGs) or games in general.

I don't mind not having sliders, but there's a lacking amount of customizable features. Can't choose nose types, mouth types, eyebrow types etc.

Then tattoos are an abundance of, but only on the face.

The design choice for it makes no sense, especially with how in-depth everything else is besides the physical creation of a character.

I do have my gripes with preset based character creation too, but I think it's understandable for this type of game.

Why so? You spend 200h+ with your character and they show a close up of it in almost every cutscene. Why would you want to spend 200 hours with a poorly made generic character?

I've posted this in other threads on the subject: The choice of using scanned faces was a mistake or they should have scanned ALOT more. The choices for each race range from limited to very limited and to make matters worse the face pool is shared with NPCs so you'll constantly be running in to your double. Take tieflings for example females have like 5 faces and those faces are repeated all over the grove. In early access I was largely cool with it because I assumed they were just placeholders but they're not. They should have never used scanned faces for the NPCs at least and for custom characters as well in my opinion.

In some ways it is now worse than in EA. Lariat really struggles with the concept of "user friendly", especially when it comes to UI.

You can't criticise popular game nowadays until a 1 hour video essay comes out about it 3 months later. Either it's all ♥♥♥♥, or all amazing.

Or go to the slums and cheaply scan several thousand faces of various homeless people.

Your character's face is shown in every cutscene, that's why.

This is biggest disappointment and everyone who is defending it are just copying because they can't admit that there is something wrong with a game. But I will admit game is so far good, but this is just laziness

The games good i'd give it a 3 out of 5 atm. It would be a 4 out of 5 if character creation was actually more then adequate.

I wouldn't mind if there were preset faces if there were more of them. Sliders are obviously the preferable option, but I'd be perfectly happy with just having a lot of presets to choose from. Same with bodies.

I'm going to guess that mods will come out pretty quickly that'll fix this, but it would have been nice to have more options from the getgo.

It's one of the very few problems I have with the game.
