How to set vulkan as default?

I created a shortcut to bg3.exe found here:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Baldurs Gate 3\bin

The exe for DX11 is also found there - bg3_dx11.exe.

Launching bg3.exe should be the Vulcan version and doing this skips the launcher as well.

If you're talking about the radio buttons beneath the play button, those are one time only selections. Every time I launch with vulkan, it resets to directx next time I launch the launcher.

I feel like dx11 is slower than vulkan so I wanted to use vulkan but you can't select it as default. I guess I'll do that direct launch from exe.

This selection ought to be remembered from one launch to another. I am always having to remember to select Vulkan and am finding this is becoming a tiny annoyance. So many other details are spot on but this one ......

Is there a solution? I don't want to chose everytime hitting the play button. A "Don't ask next time" button would be great in the Larian launcher...

Go into the bin folder and make a shortcut on your desktop of bg3 exe.

Simply right click on Baldur's Gate 3 in your Library -> Properties.

Right there in General, Launch Options, set it to this:

"C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Baldurs Gate 3\bin/bg3.exe" %COMMAND%

Exactly like that, with the quotes, replace C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam for you Steam folder location, if it's not that.

They removed this functionality.

I did simple little trick to accomplish this goal. I changed bg3.exe (vulkan defalut) to bg3_dx11.exe and use the --skip-launcher launch option and now the game bypasses launcher and defaults to vulkan. dont foget to change bg3_dx11.exe (original) to something else. I did bg3_dx11-old.exe

An update or verify integrity of game files will likely revert the change.

My way is simpler, it's just a string in Launch Options.

No idea if now the choice "sticks", as this bypasses the Larian launcher.
