Are there any gamer lawyers out there?
TLDR: This is a very niche post, but I'm a huge nerd and I need brushing up on my contract law. I just found it so fascinating and this post is purely for entertaining my academic curiosity; I am not seeking any legal advice, but I welcome legal information. Also spoiler warnings.

This is in regards to the Auntie Ethel quest and character interaction. I play a human barbarian.

Now, if I remember correctly, the legal question I want to ask in particular pertains to whether the player character may seek recourse from unforeseen circumstances? The contract is this: I surrender my eyeball in exchange for her removing the tadpole from my body. Now, I have already performed my end of the transaction--allowing her to take my eyeball--and, as she performs the ritual, she recoils at the fact that this is no ordinary tadpole; thereafter, she says that she is unable to do anything for us. Can we get our eyeball back?

Also, there would be grounds for voiding the contract on grounds of duress and unconscionability, correct?

Our characters are in the vulnerable state of turning into mind flayers via ceremorphosis, a process that many Wizards can testify affects the mind. She obviously took advantage of that by telling us that she can't help us in the druid sanctuary, but, instead, has us go out of the public eye into her private domain (lair). Now, we have some warnings along the way that should deter the reasonable person; however, again, there is also that lower standard deference argument for a person suffering from ceremorphosis. Auntie Ethel obviously has the higher negotiating power in this transaction (given her age, experience, and arcane/magical knowledge). Her defenses can include my having other party members around to act in an advisory capacity (notably, Gale). Do we have an action for duress or unconscionability?

I doubt I will get any traffic on this post, but I thought it was very fascinating to consider. Thank you for your time in reading through everything, and I welcome any contributions!

I think we would have a different situation in the case of Raphael because, if I remember correctly, devils in D&D lore are normally bound by their contracts as they are usually lawful, correct?
