DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_REMOVED

This DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_REMOVED crash to desktop is happening with Vulcan and Dx11 played for a solid 4 hours and now it happens every 10 minuets.

Windows 10 is up to date and I have re installed the latest GPU driver. and I have validated the game files twice.

This is the only game I am having this error with. And I have tried turning down the settings as well. And I closed steam overlay.

Really frustrating.

Edit: after doing a sfc/scannow and a clean install of my GPU drivers the game ran smoothly for 3 hours then cashed again

This is the error that I keep getting and I have run scannow again and it doesn't find anything now and have tried everything possible for my laptop listed so far in the comments. I am crashing every 2-3 hours

Update (8/2/2023) I know as many of you also have tickets with Larian as well but I have had no response to my ticket in more than a week now which is frustrating.

Update (9/3/2023) I played for the longest stretch yet just over 12ish hours in 2 hour bits here and there. But crashed again so problem is still active for me.

Update (9/20/2024) Little over a year later! I never did get the issue fixed for myself, but seems a few folks had luck following post #44. I actually built a new PC about 6 months after initially posting. Thankfully the error didn't follow me on to my new system!

If you have an AMD video card, do a Reset Shader Cache (in you radeon software app). I believe on green cards a similar procedure will help.
and don't stop praying to the Absolute for Larian to release a fix.

I've been having your same issue with BG3. Random crash, device hung with the device removed error message. I also had it consistently when I was playing Red Dead Redemption 2, but never on any other games.
I was following this thread and trying everything with no success. Earlier today, though, I was crashing every 5 minutes and getting really annoyed.

I went to NVIDIA Control Panel, manage 3D settings, global settings. There is an option for "Power management mode". It was by default set to "Optimal power" I set it to "Adaptive", and I haven't had a crash since. If that really is the solution, I assume setting it to "Prefer maximum performance" would also do the trick. I'm crossing my fingers and hoping it continues without crashes...

EDIT: Aaaaaand I just had another crash...I have no idea how to fix this problem...

Yeh i was just trying it too, ran way smoother and a bit longer but still crashed

Well, 2 weeks since i had last crash and i got it again. Guess why? Nvidia display driver has been updated by windows. So i turned off this function and rolled back my previous driver. In my opinion problem is display driver (nvidia - display - 31.0.15.3623), solution is 31.0.15.3158 (531.38) + you have to deny any updated from Windows update Center to your GPU (Google it). For me it works. Cheers!

In addition to that - I'm having zero crashes with my 3060 and I am using the not-so-current driver version 536.23 (only the bare driver - no nvidia bloatware).

Tried clean install, tried directx updates.

Lenovo Legion 7 laptop. i9-13900k, RTX 4070, 64gb RAM.
Changing to low power GPU mode doesn't help.
Crash happens about once every 1-2 hours of game. Happens if left idle in menus, happens while playing in any area on any game settings I've tried, happens while alt-tabbed.
Happens single and multi-player.

Temps are completely fine and sub 80c on CPU/GPU, sub 70c when i run at max fans and still crash.
Only started playing around 8/15, so cant say if it happened on previous patches or driver versions.

Yeh, I really don’t recommend turning GPU debug on. Messing about in your registry can cause whole other problems. And in this case you’re basically not allowing your GPU to turn off in emergency situations.
