Any success using mac + crossover / parallels?
I'm using mac air m1 2020 8gb ram + crossover, launching bg3 shows no new windows, yet steam reports the game as "playing". Any suggestions on how to make it all work?

The answer is: you should directly launch bg3_dx11.exe from the bin folder of the app to make it playable

But: the game is unplayable this way (on the given setup), so chill out mac users, you can't play the full version

Launched BG3 via parallels, it works, 30+ FPS, in general, you can play while waiting for the release :) MacBook 16 M1 pro 1tb

hang up, it doesn't work well with parallels, but I came across a discussion describing how to run it on a crossover, it works!

here is that article on reddit https://www.reddit.com/r/macgaming/comments/15he54w/baldurs_gate_3_crashing_with_crossover/?rdt=63629

CrossOver 23.0, which just came out, finally worked for me (I'm on Sonoma Beta). Just download that, delete old CrossOver from Applications, move new Crossover into Applications, launch, make sure version if 23.0 in About window. Don't need to patch with CX Patcher. Then toggle DXVK on and then off for Steam bottle. Then IN CROSSOVER when you select Steam bottle you'll see "Run Command" on the right. Click that. Click Browse... next to command and find bg3_dx11.exe (for me it's "/Users/[username]/Library/Application Support/CrossOver/Bottles/Steam/drive_c/Program Files (x86)/Steam/steamapps/common/Baldurs Gate 3/bin/bg3_dx11.exe")

Note that using Run Command is DIFFERENT than doing Browse Local Files from inside Steam and finding same file and launching it (which does not work for me).

parallels is fine but can be sluggish, even with a beefier mac.

However for me the game keeps crashing during one of the opening fights in act iii. Trying to explore CrossOver but honestly having a lot of trouble with that too.

EDIT: After upgrading Mac OS to Ventura, I am able to login to steam, getting past the bug described here (https://www.reddit.com/r/macgaming/comments/lv54je/steam_displaying_black_screen_running_trough/). Installing now
EDIT: Got Baldur's Gate running using PwntByUkrainian running. though my steam saves aren't syncing...mmmm
EDIT: okay, so in order to get cloud files to sync, you need to run via steam. LariLauncher is not working for me in CrossOver, so just reconfigure steam to run dx11.exe directly as described here https://reddit.com/r/BaldursGate3/s/uuN817ujg8

Overall, CrossOver runs way better than Parallels. Parallels is much easier to setup, but you'd need a license to get more RAM and resources and even then it's extremely sluggish and prone to crashing. CrossOver isn't perfect but it's a way better experience.

Just to chime in, 2022 MacBook M1 Pro 16GB memory 1TB here. Dropped $120 for "Parallels Pro" and it runs like a drunken donkey. Runs smoothish on all the lowest settings, however 40% of the topography is transparent, with the only "ground" being about 1000ft below. Graphics are probably on par with PS2.

I went with Parallels as a stopgap measure until Mac release next week, because they have a 30 day no questions asked refund. That being said, I'm strongly considering going with Crossover, as the technical issues are really impacting my gaming experience.
