Why not Kill NPCs?
I got to the ruins, and there is this enemy party there. If I pass intimidate check to get them to leave I get no XP. But If i attack them and kill them, then my party gets XP. Why would I ever not just kill them, if getting them to leave thru speech nets me no XP? Correct me If I am wrong.

Maybe different content in the future after letting them live ?

Uh, I definitely got XP for convincing them to leave.

Also forgot to mention that killing these NPCs give me their items too. So why not kill them. You get XP and items. Where as getting them to leave thru speech nets you nothing

Maybe I didn't see it. I can try reloading a save.

Role-playing. The primary purpose behind having choices to begin with, getting to play the character you want. Some characters would not kill those guys, some would. Simple as that. There's more XP available in the game than is needed to level up, so it's not like by the end of the game you'll be lacking.

Maybe because your party does not consist only in psychotic killers.

I'm playing a Paladin, so obviously lawful good. I am playing the vengeance oath so I was prepared to kill them, but in managing to get them to leave without a fight I both avoided bloodshed, which is good, and I got them to stop desecrating the chapel by ransacking it. Best of all worlds. The good people in my party like this course of action.
This is called roleplaying. It's very fun and immersive and it makes these games far more enjoyable, you should try it.
When I play an evil character in my next run I'm going to paint the chapel with their blood.

Very old-school but probably still valid computer RPG advice.

Need to be sure about that groups relevance or lack of it down the line, yhough.

My character failed the test with saying "its full of monsters".
Then they attacked me, was the best result as i am playing a paladin and can't attack them without breaking my oath.
