Escape key not opening menu

Played a little bit today with a friend. Wanted to reload something, moved from place to place and found myself unable to do so despite being able to earlier. Restarting the game seemed to fix the bug, but assuming it could reoccur, I wanted to see if anyone else has encountered it yet, or knows how to fix it.

Same issue. Had to ALT+F4 and reload a save.

Also encountered this bug. Co-op partner still had access to their menu but Escape key did not work and Menu button on the top right was disabled.

same issue, could not level my characters, host and I both cannot use escape to open game menu, menu button in corner greyed out

F8 to quickload your last save

Shift tabing out and waiting a couple minutes fixed this for me.

Nope haven't had an issue when using the escape key for any reason ingame.... (and I tend to use it quite abit ingame)

Related follow up if anyone else runs into this. F5 is the quick save button. In case someone wants to be sure the game saved before alt+F4ing out.

Just had the same issue. Host could not open menu, but I could. Just found this topic but he already alt f4'd so we did not try quick load. Alt tab out did not fix it for us.

This is what worked for me:
- Open the game
- Options > Keybinds
- Change "Cancel Action" to be Escape ONLY. If there are other keys, remove them
- Change "Context Menu" to be Scroll Lock ONLY. If there are other keys, remove them

I doubt the specific key you bind to it matters but as I said, that's what I did and it works

I have tried resetting to defaults and Escape now works normally. Could be that they fixed it in a patch or that doing these steps initialized something that solved the problem? Idk

Had this issue and I fixed it by quicksaving with F5 and the quickloading with F8 solved the issue.

Using workaround of F5 then F8 works.

same issue here. F5 for quick save and F8 for quick load. Once it is loaded, esc works again. Hope they fix this glitch

I Re-verified the files through the steam app and that seems to have fixed the issue
