Multiplayer honestly is a huge disappointment...
I have to say, for multiplayer to have been a key focus on the development, It's really suffering...

* No in-game chat, for friends who don't have mics, or can't use them. So its incredibly annoying and tedious to keep having to switch to discord, or steam chat.

Edit: So many people seem to be completely oblivious to the fact that Mute, Deaf, and people with speech impediments exist.. in todays generation of "accessibility" in gaming with color blind modes, and plethora of other side settings, why have we gone so backwards on core functions like a chat box for co-op and multiplayer games?

Not only that, but there are thousands of reasons of why a person may choose not to use a mic, when they could... like for example, a sleeping child is in the next room, and they don't want to wake them?

* No clear cut easy way to see what your friend is currently doing, or if they initiated a cutscene. Currently having an issue where a friend keeps going off on their own and initiating stuff, and I have no way to know that unless I'm literally leashed to his character.

Even if I'm following their character, it's not always clear if they're in their inventory, talking to a nearby NPC, or trying to figure something out.

* Dialogue being so 1 dimensional, with no way for you to counter play or get involved...

This could have honestly been done easily and made games far more interesting and fun between friends, especially ones that are playing different styles. Paladin (Me), and Rogue (Them). They aren't evil rogue, but htey are neutral, and wanting to take advantage of situations, while I being a paladin do not.

This forces everything including playstyles with friends to be so 1 dimensional. WHy couldn't I force a roll to try to get a different option on my side? That would make quite interesting situations where sometimes 1 of us overrides the other, which should be more than possible with how the game is setup, since we both can initiate convo's anyway.

it sounds like your friend needs to get a mic. there cheap as hell.

No Mic? It's 2023.. where have you been living? I guess you have no camera either.

Everyone uses discord these days, why bother with ingame chat noone will ever use.
I'd also suggest getting better friends.. people who just go off and do their own thing, shouldn't be in a multiplayer group.

Some people get really anxious about using a mic, even if it's with people they've known for a long time online. I know the first few times I used a mic online I was pretty anxious. Heck, I have a friend who gets anxious hearing other people use mics even if they never do.

In such situations, best I can recommend is a discord server with a TTS bot set up in a channel monitoring another channel, that way anyone without mics can still "talk," albeit having to alt-tab away, and people with mics can still hear and talk back. If you don't want to use a mic and you don't want to alt-tab, then I don't know what to suggest except have a bit of faith in the people you trust enough to call a friend online to the point you'll play games with them, and that the only way to deal with anxiety is to overcome it - and that's only done by doing the thing you're anxious about.

Your friend can do roguish things without you around, it's one of the fun parts, you can be completely independent from your MP friends, they could be literally the other side of the map

Mics are mandatory for team-based multiplayer. If you want to be taken seriously.

I learned that way back when LOTRO was still a game. If you didn't have a mic back then, you weren't wanted.

Those rules should apply even more so today.

Also, this will be a terribly unpopular game for multiplayer.

I thought I’d seen every whine possible, and then this thread happened.

How did humanity make it this far with this much dead weight lol

Mics are not mandatory #1 at leaset they shouldn't be.

#2 in all of our QOL accessibility with color blind modes, etc... Its astounding that we've taken such a major step backwards from basic communication QOL...

Everyone harping about not having a mic in 2023, or "mics are mandatory" are being extremely ignorant, and disrespectful towards people who may have speech impediments, mute, deaf, or other forms of complications which could cause them to either very much not want to use mics, or straight up unable too.

There is no real reason or excuse why BG3 can't have a simple chat box for friends in-game to help keep communication for these situations.

Imagine thinking someone is "Dead weight" to humanity for being disappointed a chat box in a game to play with a deaf friend isn't available, when it could so easily be...

Seems more of a friend issue than a game problem to me.

For 1 of the problems yes. Not the others.

Also deaf, mute, speech impediments, and other medical issues stopping people from using mics does exist.. Sucks they have to just deal with it, when a chat box would be so easy to add.

But screw them right? who cares.

100% agree, thank you for making this point as I was about to post something similar. I have a friend who is completely unable to talk for medical related reasons, and no text chat is honestly such a bummer/pita. It makes no sense.

For those saying "it's 2023 how do you not have a mic" I'd ask: it's 2023, how is there no basic text chat?

Communication is key in team based anything.
Therefore Mic's are key. Unless you live a few hundred feet from your companions and they can hear you screaming out the window.

If you were right.. we'd not have mobile phones or landline phones or satellite phones. The reason we do is because it is key to being in a team.

Lack of experience and fear of interaction are understandable. Experience in meeting people and talking to them removes this fear you have. You have to step out of your safe bubble.

Explain how a deaf, mute, or speech impediment person is supposed to do this over a mic. :)
