Ranged weapons are dishonorable. Charge your foe and die in melee like a man!

No, they don't. Has always been that way in D&D. Just as Druids can't wear metal armor. Just one of those class things.

You can be a ranged paladin. idr if they have the proficiency but im sure it can be made to work

They can. Mine used a crossbow. They don't specialize in them though, I think, so they're best used as like "I can't take any actions this turn while I charge the enemy, but... ♥♥♥♥ it, I'mma try shooting him anyway."

Druids CAN wear metal armor
it is purely a flavor thing that they choose not to

I'm pretty sure paladins have always been able to use ranged weapons. Only a select few orders ban the use of ranged weapons.

Admittedly, I've not played D&D since 3.5, but in every version of it did play, Druids couldn't actually use spells at all if they put on metal armor. It was a lot more than "flavor", there were real repercussions for doing so. That's why "Ironwood" material was so important for druids that wanted decent armor ratings.

If they can wear it now with no repercussions then that is a rather major change to the class. Not saying you are wrong, just saying it was not that way in the past.

Yeah this is the new reality where ♥♥♥♥ just doesn't matter anymore. Anyone can do anything, anything can do anyone. Longstanding rules, concepts, and lore be damned.

4e was the WoW/Walmart/McDonalds of RPG's. 5e is that turned up to 11. It is what it is.

This saddens me. At least Pathfinder is sticking with its roots and not neutering its character creation.
