PC shutting off while running BG3?
Yeah I'm going to be THAT guy this time.
My 850 EVGA G+ from 2019 is likely shutting my computer off in this heat after an hour or so of gameplay. I haven't had issues at all with any other heavy AAA game yet.

Just wondering if my fancy PSU is finally going out or anyone else had this issue.

EDIT: CPU: 9700F GPU: 3080 (EVGA) OS: Win 11

tried vaccuming or limiting fps vsync etc? youre not the only one
Rushnerd Aug 3, 2023 @ 8:30pm
Yeah the fps cap is 120 (my LG TV's refresh rate) and v-sync is on. I am running high settings, barring the ULTRA options. I'm starting to think my hardware might not be the issue here. I completely air compressed the PC last month, It's extremely clean.

Your power supply is biting the dust, it's not keep up with the demands.

You know you should be upgrading your PC specs but I don't know your situation so I suggest replacing the power supply then graphics card.

Yeah, I wouldn't think a new EVGA PSU would already be failing after four years, but I suppose it's possible. Just never had this issue in other games. I cannot see how the GPU would have much to do with it.

You seem to be aware that it could be a heat didn't bother to monitor the temps? Look at your CPU & GPU temps while playing, if they get too hot PCs turn off to prevent damage.

enable nvidia overlay, press alt-z and lower power target to 95%

Actually the first time it happened I was de-clocking and setting the power target at 80%.
The temps aren't the issue.

If you have an external fan, I finds it helps to position it at your pc's backside to keep it from overheating. or taking the side off your computer entirely if it is designed like that.

I have had this pc for 10 years now, a lot of stuff has to be done to keep it from overheating with these newer games.

It's an open case. The temps are usually lower than normal cases and fans are always going in my room.
Thinking about ordering a new PSU, even though that root cause is unlikely.

it's not much help, but the only other thing I can think of is googling an answer about games/programs making your pc shut down.

This is a problem I have seen for other games over the years, so I am certain someone somewhere found a solution that might apply for you.

I'm having the same issue with a 1300W PSU and a 3090. Even if I use MSI afterburner to set it to 85% power and use DLSS, my system still shuts down during scene transitions. I've had it running Prime95 and FurMark/Blender for hours and it's fine. Load up BG3 and *click*. I've got an ATX 3.0 1600W PSU coming tomorrow, but this is absurd. I've never had any problems with any other game or GPU-based application, even running raw CUDA.

If I find a solution, I'll let you know, but this is a bummer. Not much info out there about this as far as I can tell, mostly people saying "lol uhave a bad PSU".

Games don't shut off PC's. You have a hardware issue.

try setting the frame rate limiter under video options

My friend and I tried to COOP this last night. His PC shut down during character creation.
