Do you not know what DnD is?
Its X number of players in a group with a DM or "dungeon master" who tells a story, they are the narrator. You are playing the character in that story the DM is telling
The cutscenes and characters are doing a fine job of that. Yes, in table top dungeons and dragons you would have this sort of thing, not in a video game. It's like if you had dolly parton narrating gordon freeman's adventures in Black Mesa. It just doesnt fit.
That would actually get me to play Black Mesa.
Thats where i think you are confused. You think its weird because you think you are playing a character within the fantasy setting of DND.
But you actually are the player, controlling the character set within the story the DM is telling you.
