If your on Linux the Vulkan shaders precompile would solve it, on Windows maybe we can use dvnk for windows to precompile all of the shaders?
Reminds me of the Elden Ring launch, with PCgamer releasing articles about how the best way to play the game at a constant zero hitch framerate was to use a Steamdeck or run the game on Linux.

In the Windows version, you should also turn on the Vulkan API at the bottom of the launcher.

Make sure Vulkan is set in the Larian launcher.

I recommend choosing Vulkan. For some reason it wasnt autoselected in Larian, so when I quit the game to eat a meal, watch some stuff. I ended up afterwards launching Direct 11. The difference is astounding. Direct was lagging and stuttering heavily and I literally experienced maybe the tiniest stutter in a massive flaming area with physicals everywhere using Vulkan. So yeah, theres a difference.

Yes, I wrote that. And unfortunately yes, you have to switch it back to Vulcan every time. I think this is still a small bug in the current version, and it will be corrected soon.

And DirectX 11 is more prone to failure the older the processor is...

I hope so, its a minor inconvenience, but I was really wondering why my second play session was so laggy lmao. Only found out the third time I launched it that it wasnt defaulting to Vulkan after I chose it the first time.

And yeah, but I figured a real experience would help hammer home how massive the differences were

If you have a lot of memory (32 GB+) then you can also try the slow HDD mode in the settings. Then more data is cached in the main memory, and there should actually be more data available. The memory should then simply be used better, but that's just an idea of mine.

that´s interresting because the pinned FAQ states this

the less stable part is what would concerns me for me at least it runs fine in DX 11 but i also did not tried vulkan yet
------
What's the difference between DX11 and Vulkan mode?
Vulkan presents a potential performance increase over DX11 in most cases, though may be slightly less stable for now. Baldur’s Gate 3 defaults to DX11.

Please note that Vulkan is driver-sensitive, and might need some experimentation to find which driver runs best.

For me, Vulcan was always switched back to DirectX 11, but I don't care because I just switch it back.

And Vulcan really is a lot better.
Damien Aug 3, 2023 @ 7:18pm
Technically it's very complicated, of course, but Vulcan is a further development of the old OpenGL interface that Doom used back then, for example, or other old shooters. Vulcan is very similar to DirectX 12. Of course, Vulcan is even faster than DX 12, but it doesn't have that many features, especially when it comes to ray tracing etc. Furthermore, Intel graphics cards still have some problems with the Vulcan interface. AMD and Nvidia have them under control.

PS: Furthermore, Vulcan, like Open GL, is an open interface that anyone can use. DirectX 11 and 12 can only be used by Microsoft.

DirectX 11 1440p everything max, absolutely 0 stutter. 9700k, 3070ti, 32GB of RAM + NVME SSD. Game chugs RAM tho i've noticed 24 GB of usage at peak, very few games in my library do that.

It is well known that Geforce cards in particular can handle DirectX 11 very well if the processor is fast enough. But Vulcan is usually faster there too.

You should try VanillaH with Vulcan. It might be worth it :)

The game is all over the place performance wise, it feels identical to early access. Doesn’t feel finished imo

I also use a Geforce, but an RTX 3090, and Vulcan really works for me :)

So in the frame rate. I play at 3820x1600, and then with DLAA on top :)
