How do I get a friend to join without making a custom character
Same as title. I'm trying to make a playthrough where there is only the one main character (As with additional customs you cannot move them out of your party if your friend cannot play for a day or whatever) And it seems that any time my friend is trying to join they are forced to make a custom, despite being on the beach post tutorial. Is there absolutely ANY way to just have them control one of the companions I find, or simply a way to leave a custom character at the camp?

They have to make a custom character once, and then they will be sync’s to where you are regardless. Their char is based on your save, not theirs. They cannot access their save.

When I played coop (joining my gfs session) I didn’t have a single save. She had all the saves, including my characters progression and inventory

I start a Solo campaign.
Friend Joins, It forces them to make a Custom

Can I then, when they are unable to play, Remove their custom to camp?

Just start the game as normal then invite them when you get Lae'zel/Shadowheart

Im confused about this too, I am unable to allow a friend to join and control companion/origin characters. When he leaves his custom character is just stuck in my party forever? This seems really strange.

I had a friend start, then when finding Shadowheart on the beach, invite me in an attempt to take over her character. But it still throws me into Character Creation.

Opening up the Session screen and trying to drag her over to me doesn't work either.

A reiteration of the end goal.
Player 1 : Controls Custom character from the start of the game
Player 2 : Jump in to only control Shadowheart when recruited.

Currently it will prompt all people who join to make their own character, but then you cannot remove the custom character when your friend cannot play. That is not the goal

Multiple players, only one custom character is the goal, for true Drop in Drop out

I have a solution for that problem, for this you have to enter the game to control a character that is not the main one and create a savegame, then the partner joins the game and a character is created to join. once the character is attached load the game to the previous save in which you did not control your main character. In this way, the game assigns your character to your friend and another random one from the party to you. sometimes it takes a bit to get it but it was the only solution at the moment

This thread was quite old before the recent post, so we're locking it to prevent confusion.
