1. Protect Sazza the female goblin in a cage when she was threatened to be shot by Arka.
2. Win the persuasion checks.
3. Wait tieflings to leave.(or don't, but than you have to kill the tieflings. :P)
4. Have a word with Sazza agreeing to free her to guide you to gobo camp.
5. Lockpick the cage DC:10 with Astarion.
6. Open the cage. BAM OATH BROKEN!
7. Talk with Sazza and you'll get cutscene with Oathbreaker Knight.

Hope this helps! :)

funny thing, i did all this...but my oath is still intact. could be that my game is just bugged somehow? i even betrayed the tieflings after promising them my protection and it doesnt work. xD

Odd??? I tested this twice since at my first try "accidentally" killed the tieflings and I was like ooopsie-poopsie... Quickreload. :P

Did you use Astarion or your main character to open the cage? I only used Astarion to do the lockpicking and opened the cage with my main character.

From the wiki
You will become an Oathbreaker if you: In general, going back on your word and betraying those you have convinced not to attack you will break your oath. Examples of this include betraying the Tieflings when rescuing Lae'zel, betraying the goblins within the Blighted Village as well as the Shattered Sanctum.

Allowing Arka to kill the caged goblin Sazza.

Torture Liam at the Shattered Sanctum.

Please don't think everything on fextralife is correct.
That bit you copy/pasted is straight from oath of devotion page. that someone just copied over to the oath of vengeance page. so we don't know if it's correct.
it's even the same on oath of ancients XD

Play the game, experience your experience, and reroll the campaign if you don’t like your outcomes.

Or power through whatever baldurs gate throws at you. :sakurako:

yay, i believe that is rubbish as well.
Can confirm now for starters that allowing Arka to kill the goblin does NOT break an oath of Vengeance.

maybe its the contrary? maybe you got to not kill someone you have swear vengeance upon?

yeah well the oath is not really specific in that regard sadly, i tryed to spare/rescue some "monsters" but that didnt do the trick xD

Several people have complained about becoming oathbreakers early on when you find the caged gith, telling the tieflings you'll help them kill her, and then helping her instead.
The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.

I accidentally broke oath of vengeance by giving up the location of the grove and saying I will help kill everyone there, even though I had full intentions to help the tieflings. So even after defending the grove I am an oathbreaker for trying deception when it wasn’t marked as deception in game

Okay, so i tried many old saves to make a list of what works.

That works, sadly i persuade them to leave alone back then.

yay, that was my mistake. kind of dumb that it is so oddly specific about who opens the cage , i mean, i am still freeing her. so can confirm that works too.

not tried yet since defending them takes a rather long time and i wanted to help the goblins. its odd that i didnt break the oath even thought i promised the tieflings to protect them.

Overall i am now just sad that i missed these easy early stuff. cause i am now after the big attack and it would mean to play many hours again, well maybe i find a way to break the oath later too.
Thadeus Aug 5, 2023 @ 3:29am
One of the tenets of Vengeance says "No mercy for the wicked". So if you fight an evil character but the character begs for mercy and you grant it and let them get away, you just broke your oath.

I broke my oath of vengeance by letting the prisoned goblin escape.
