Should I go back and play BG1 or BG2 first?
Never played anything Baldur's Gate before.

I mean they are amazing games. and there are recurring places/characters, but it's definitely not needed.

No, not at all, Baldurs Gate 1 and 2, and TOS has way different game mechanics than this one, so I would suggest enjoy this new one for now and keep the older Baldurs Gate on the Hold, so that you have something to look forward to after this one..

I highly recommend playing BG 1&2 mainly because those two are among the greatest games of all time. Amazing stories / characters.

That said, the gameplay is going to be different than BG3 because BG 1&2 are based off 2nd Edition D&D ruleset and not 5th Edition D&D like BG3.

BG 1&2 is real time with pause, while BG3 is turn based.

BG1&2's max party size is 6x, while BG3 is 4x

You can but just a warning, in baldurs gate 1 and 2 you CANNOT choose your genitals.

No no, they were great at the time though. You can safely play this one without.

I played one of them and personally didn't find it an enjoyable experience at all. The stories aren't connected either, so you can do as you please really.

Yes, because they are great games with an epic story...... thats completely unrelated to this game.

No. Play if you like the story, but prepare for bad graphics, especially Baldurs Gate 1. And Baldurs Gate 2 try to get the updated graphics edition.

This. Someone needs to make a mod for BG1/2 to do this STAT!

In addition to other recommendations, I'd suggest to watch "Dungeons & Dragons: Honor among the Thieves". While it's an amazing movie by itself, it might help a bit to better understand the world "Baldur's Gate 3" is in.

Yes, when you're done with the enhanced editions and their DLCs, BG3 will have had some patches, idiots will be gone from the forums - and you'll be in a much better place to understand all the talk about bhaal spawns...

Downside is, the rules and engines of BG3 are different and you'll have to re-learn some things to be really proficient...
