Hi, for me works to disable the operating assistance in the mac config

Oh nicely done, so what worked for me was:

1. Disable steam input for Baldurs Gate (`Steam Library -> Right Click Game -> Properties -> Controller -> Disable Steam Input`)
2. Open Mac `System Settings -> Privacy & Security -> Accessibility -> Disable for Baldur's Gate`)

This worked for me, however every time I touch the dpad, menus freak out and I need to disconnect the controller in order to be able to navigate anything. Using an Xbox One controller.

Tried all the methods from this thread with no success:

- disabled Steam Input for BG3 in Steam properties
- ensured BG3/Steam are off in Security & Privacy → Accessibility
- reinstalled the game
- connected controller before or during the game
- unpaired and paired controller again

Xbox One via Bluetooth, Intel Mac, macOS Ventura.

Looking forward for Larian to fix this (seemingly) last show-stopper.

I had the same problem. steam appears to be off in Security & Privacy/Accessibility but you have to highlight it and push - so that it dissapears.
that worked for me but each time you log into steam you have to do it again.

I have the same issue trying to play on M2 Max MacBook Pro 16" with patch 3, and bluetooth connected Xbox controller. I've tried all the suggestions here and nothing works. The game is unplayable like this. I'm sad...

can confirm still happening. each time ive played it, eventually i can get to a screen with keyboard command allowing me to reject a second player and it works (lets me play controller no issue) but each (3) time ive done something different and now i cant make it happen. i cant seem to force it to fix and i have done all the various methods people have tried.

I was struggling like you to get my Xbox Series X controller to work on my M1 iMAC. I had the split screen issue where the game erroneously detected (2) controller inputs when there was only one. I tried all the fixes like disabling Steam inputs without success.

Today I decided to uncrate the Xbox console and *update* the controller... It worked.

I didn't change any other parameter and was able to successfully create a character and play for hours. If you've been struggling like I have, give this a try! Good luck.

Thanks you so much! This seemed to do the trick for me as well! I just updated the controller and gave it a quick test run - NO MORE SPLIT SCREEN! Also, the buggy dpad behavior seems to have been solved as well.

Is there a way to "update" ps4 controller? Especially if I don't have PlayStation 😅

If you have access to a PC: https://controller.dl.playstation.net/controller/lang/en/fwupdater.html

SOLVED:

Steam > Preferences > Controller > Enable Playstation Support
Game Options > Properties > Controller > Disabled Steam Input < critical
macOS Privacy > Accessibility Options: Steam and Baldur's gate enabled

Most importantly: do not use the controller until your saved game loads and you're in the game world - instead use the keyboard and mouse. If you click on a controller input at ANY time before this you'll trigger the bug.

Why this works: The bug we're all seeing is a result of errors in the game's Steam Input setting and not releasing the keyboard as an input device when a controller's present. The confusing bit (and why this solution works consistently), is the bug's only triggered in the game's initial menus, not when running in the game world.

In my testing I found you could essentially "trick" the game into behaving normally by toggling the PlayStation controller support and Steam input settings along with restarting the game multiple times, but that's just a big old waste of time. The work-around above works every time and doesn't require reloads.

----

@guagni.lorenzo - Sorry to hear this hasn't worked for you. I would stress we cannot use the controller until your save game has finished loading, and you must have Steam Input disabled under the game settings (gear icon on the games main page in Steam). The combination of settings above and process has worked without fail for me, I hope with a bit of experimentation it will for you as well.

Most importantly: do not use the controller until your saved game loads, use the keyboard and mouse. If you click on a controller input at any time before this it won't work consistently.

Why this works: it appears a bug is triggered when you use the controller at the title screen because instead of deactivating keyboard input, it wrongly *keeps* it as an input. The result is when you load into a game it now sees two input devices instead of just one. Should be simple for Larian to fix.

The wildcard is in the Game options we HAVE to have Steam Input disabled, leaving it enabled causes the above to not work. Not sure why this is the case.

I can confirm this didn't solve the problem for me yet.

My sibling fiddled around with it and this is what worked. This doesn't work with xbox controllers as of now, but it does work on PS4 controllers on Mac. I have a 2020 M1 Mac.

>Click the gear on Baldur's gate or right click the game and select Properties
>Click General, uncheck "enable the Steam Overlay while in-game." If this is greyed out and turned off go to the next step.
>Click Controller and disable steam input.
>If the "enable the Steam Overlay while in-game." was greyed out click Controller General Settings underlined above the disable input option.
>Enable Steam input for playstation controllers
>Click in Game option above controller. Toggle on "Enable the steam overlay while in-game"
>Return to General settings page. Toggle "enable the steam overlay while in-game" on.
>Restart Baldur's Gate 3
>Toggle from controller and keyboard and mouse. If you can toggle back and forth it has worked. Double check by going to Baldurs gate 3>main menu>multiplayer>create new game. You should see that you occupy only one controller.
>If all of this fails go to mac>system settings>bluetooth>(your controller name)>i beside the controller name>game controller settings> ">" next to controller info> erase controller settings.
>Restart BG3

Hope this helps

Disabling Steam Input from Baldur's Gate 3's properties in Steam fixed this for me.

Steam Input seems to somehow make the game detect the controller twice, so you're then forced into co-op split session with yourself.
Worked for me. thanks

Solved for me.

MacBook m1 max, xBox Controller, Ventura 13.5.1 (22G90)
Tried literally everything here.

What helps for me:
Go to Windows PC
Install Xbox accessories via Microsoft Store
Update xBox Firmware controller via cable.
Forget Device on Mac, Reconnect via bluetooth

After that, controller works well.
So its not Larian bug, its Mac-xBox connection problem, so it will never be fixed with a patch.
