controller keeps adding split screen

for some reason everytime i try to play with a controller ill push A on the xbox controller and everytime it keeps adding split screen. i only have 1 controller and i just want to play with one screen. how do i fix that?

Has anyone figured this out? I can play splitscreen co-op properly if I press a button on a controller that I didn't use to start the game but if I want to play single player and I press a button on the main controller it pops up the split screen and the one controller controls both sides of the screen.

I am using some cheaper (probably not official Microsoft but I don't actually know) Xbox controllers and have to use a software calle x360ce for most games to even recognise the controller in the first place, could be something to do with that.

I had this issue too and can confirm that the solution with the steam controller works. If it doesn’t maybe make sure you change it in the Steam instance that launches on GF Now - you can access it when on the launcher screen. Changing it on your local Steam will not help.

this was very frustrating, i can confirm that disabling all controller options that i could seems to have fixed it , and allowed me to use my xbox 360 controller again

Trying to play this with controller via geforce now and all controller settings are off but still won't stop turning on split screen.

I have turned everything off and this initially worked but now after a day the issue is back and I can't play via controller. Anyone found a permanent fix yet?

disabling all controller settings then means i cant use my wireless controller at all!

I found a fix for me. I was having the same issue. I am using a dualsense controller through dualsensex program. What worked so far for me is changing the emulated controller setting in dualsensex program that's above the connect controller button to off, restart that program. Go into steam settings, then controller. Enable playstation steam input ONLY. Then start up the game through steam (NOT big picture mode) and no more split-screen.

I have the same issue and it's driving me nuts, it has my steam profile listed in two slots like I was trying to play local co op multiplayer

I have the same issue trying to play on Mac with patch 3. Xbox controller. Disabled steam input. Tried big screen. From big screen mode, I have to press the mouse to click launch.

Really annoying.

Same issue Mac using DualShock. I’ve tried everything I could in this string. Even selected controller only input in BG game options. So lame.

Same issue here on a Macbook Air M1 wih Xbox One controller via bluetooth. Tried disabling steam input but that didn't help.

Also tried with two controllers but the game only responds to the first controller.

With keyboard-only input the game works fine.
