controller keeps adding split screen

for some reason everytime i try to play with a controller ill push A on the xbox controller and everytime it keeps adding split screen. i only have 1 controller and i just want to play with one screen. how do i fix that?

I have the same issue. The only fix I've found is to launch the game and only use the controller and make sure you don't touch the keyboard or mouse, because once you do hitting a button on a controller will add a second player instead of switching to controller. Personally i prefer the uncluttered ui in controller mode but it's nice to be able to use both. Ideally adding a second player should be done via a menu option and not just pushing a button on the controller.

Unplug controller after launch of game. Replug back in , move around a little. That works for me

Unplugging the controller and starting up with the controller don't work for me. No matter what, if I click "A", it opens up the second screen.

there is an option in the game settings where you can change if u use mouse keyboard only controller only or be able to smoothly switch between the too maybe that option need to be set accordingly for it to be working?

Disabling Steam Input from Baldur's Gate 3's properties in Steam fixed this for me.

Steam Input seems to somehow make the game detect the controller twice, so you're then forced into co-op split session with yourself.

This is frustrating. Disabling Steam Input did not work for me. It still launches split screen whenever it hits the A button. I double checked it was disabled and it was.

Affecting me too... I have the game on GOG, but added it to steam so I could play it via steamlink on other devices.

Nothing I do can fix this. Ive tried everything. Its made the game unplayable.

Okay I finally figured it out !!!! I had the issue where when ever I push X(A) on the controller it would add the second player.
It only took me all day but I got it ,

you have to go to settings in steam —> go to controller settings —> make sure you have all the controller settings off, then restart the game and your good to go
