Multiclass not getting martial weapon proficiencies from Ranger
I started as a Rogue and took Ranger at level 2. I didn't get martial weapons proficiency. I reloaded and took a level of Fighter instead and did get martial weapons proficiency. Paladins and Barbarians also got martial weapons proficiency.

Considering the changes to Ranger and the fact you can dip a single level to get heavy armor proficiency due to Ranger Knight, this change was probably intended to make Ranger not be the ultimate 1 level dip, similar to why Larian probably intentionally did not include Hexblade subclass for Warlock.

If you take a level of Ranger you can take Ranger Knight and you do get Heavy armor proficiency, I just tested it.

edit: Possible I misunderstood your post. You think removing Martial Weapon Proficiency but still allowing Heavy Armor Proficiency from Ranger Knight was intentional...I guess it is possible but bug seems more likely to me.

As per 5e multiclassing rules, multiclassing INTO ranger should give martial weapons.

Yeah it still does not as of now. Not a huge deal end game and in the grand scheme of things but you still lose a skill proficiency having to start Ranger instead of Rogue...but then again there is no real reason to start Ranger unless there is a martial weapon you want to use...which unfortunately is the case as the Heavy Crossbow Harold is like the best ranged weapon in the game until arguably Act 3.

If you are dipping into ranger just for 1 lvl ONLY to get Heavy Armur and Martial Weapons then there is a better choice already in the game. A Cleric. Not only can you get both of these proficiencies, but you also get cantrips, spell slots, and subclass features all at lvl 1. So removing Martial Weapons from Rangers would be rather pointless.
Its a bug tell Larion.
be careful to read what proficiencies you get when multiclassing into a class. They are diferent from what you could get if your started as that class at level 1

For example, paladin's get heavy armor proficiency as a starting class, but not if you spec into it as a multiclass.

You have to start out as a ranger. I went to lvl 3 to get Gloomstalker and that makes the rogue even more powerful.
You are supposed to get martial weapon prof any time you take ANY of the four martial classes. It is bugged for Rangers. It works for the other three. Why this 2 minute fix has not been implemented, not sure. They need a bug report feature in the game. Larian, as far as I can tell, is not active on these forums or their own.
