Vulkan is very unstable when compared to DX11
GPU: 7900XTX
CPU:7950X3D
RAM: 32GB

I was running into a lot of crashing and general instability under the Vulkan API, I switched to DX11 and it was a lot more stable and I experienced no crashing at all. Although Vulkan provides more performance it is just more unstable at this time, if you are running into crashing under Vulkan API for now I recommend sticking to DX11 and see if that works better for you.

Yeah dont think this is an AMD issue, dont bring fanboy politics here please. As other AMD users have had no issues on Vulkan. These are just bugs that Larian has to fix since I have been playing for about 9 hours on DX11 with no issues on an AMD card. and coming from NVIDIA to AMD, it has been very stable with many other games so please do not shift blame to AMD when Larian is the developer.

Nothing fanboy about it, just expressing that their drivers have historically sucked in my experience. And I'm not alone. Some of my friends with AMD cards aren't having a great time either. Hopefully this will become less of an issue as competition is good. Developers often have to implement vendor specific implementations to mitigate these issues/idiosyncracies. I don't have any bias towards Nvidia after some of the ♥♥♥♥ they've pulled, but I've had a better driver experience.

P.s you don't need to to defend gpu vendors for free, they see you as an audience to scalp lmao.

Vulkan should run well on AMD, if not its probably badly implemented.

Its working a lot better after today's hotfix, no crashes at all. Only some artifacts show up in the menus sometimes, its a known bug because it was mentioned in the hotfix as well.

How do I enable vulkan without the launcher? It (launcher) just doesn't show up on the steam deck

I do not know, I recommend making a discussion post about it. Someone must have figured it out by now.

Go to Steam in windows explorer, SteamApps - Common - Baldurs Gate3 - Bin Folder.
There you'll find two .exe files. One with DX11 in the name, the other bg3.exe. The second on is the Vulcan based game .exe. Make a link to desktop, start the game via link. Steam and larian launcher won't activate.
Game runs far more smoothly.

Hey Nvidia fanboys, I had too crashes with 4000 card after character creation too when I tried to use Vulkan API, so next time when you start thinking you may want to use your head instead of your ass.

Thank you for this suggestion. I tried this yesterday and still had crashes when running Vulkan. I think the implementation is just not very good, DX11 has been a lot more stable. I will just wait and see if Vulkan is improved with future patches and just play on DX11 for now.

AMD is crap, use Nvidia for stable game play.

For me it was totally the other way around and I have exactly the same specs as you.. Vulcan was totally stable but DX11 had issues.

I'm always playing using the Vulkan version - never had any problems with my i7 9700K / 3060 12 GB.

5800X3D
RTX 4070 Ti
32Gb DDR4 RAM

Almost 40 hours played and not had a single crash using Vulkan.

Over 40 hours of playtime and not a single crash or any other issue yet in Vulkan mode for me on a Nvidia 2060 super. Game launch has been the smoothest I've participated in for many years.

I capped fps at 60, and haven't seen the game actually dip below 60 in all of that 40 hours of play. The only reason I leave it cap is I see no reason to want higher framerates and a smooth framerate is way more important than a higher one for this type of game, imo.

been using AMD cards for the last few generations for my main PC and had 0 issues.. But had a 3080 in my second PC and had quite a few dodgy driver problems..

AMD GPUs and drivers have come a long long way since back when they had problems.
