The controller support is a lot better than I thought.
Let's just say, I thought I was going to be a mouse and keyboard player for this game, but decided on a whim to try the controller support since it wasnt in the early access, and I gotta say, im quite impressed.

The analog for movement and the new behind/over the shoulder camera helps with use of controller.

May actually play with controller for a CRPG for the first time with this game.

Nice. I feared that we didn't get controller support for the full release which would have been a bummer. But this sounds awesome, cant wait to play!

So there is native support? Sounds good, since I think I will probably play this a bit on the deck.

That is awesome to hear. I've been looking forward to flopping on the couch with a laptop and controller. I've got a lot of points so let me find you a good award.

How did you get your controller support to work? Mine was buggy as hell.

I can't get mine to function at all on a ps4 controller. Won't recognize it as connected. Other games working fine. What are y'all using?

The entire UI changes completely as if its a whole new game when I used my controller. Even the font and windows look completely different.

Its pretty clever how they make use of all those actions like throw, jump, and stuff to the controller. They made a whole new menu selection thats unique to the analog that allows you to select those actions. I can do pretty much everything with a controller that I could with a mouse.

But im liking the controller better for the simple fact that navigation is more convenient with controller. having to click to where I want to go and then hold the middle mouse button to rotate and edge screen pan to navigate isnt bad, but once you experience how simple and convenient the movement and camera control is with the two analogs, it makes using the mouse more of a hassle after getting used to the controller.

Although, in battle, the mouse still feels superior since all the icons is right there on the screen so you just click them. Wheres as with the controller, gotta open up menus and such to even see them. And making precise selections for targets is no where near as great as mouse in that regard.

So both has their pros and cons.

What controller type are you using?

The support is fairly impressive but there are some issues with it:

- no possibility to set camera sensitivity and default is too low
- no toggle on right analog stick press
- no possibility to look up freely when zoomed in (WHYYY)

I didn't do anything actually. I just turned on my controller mid way in a gaming session, just to see if anything would happen or not, and thats when the whole damn UI changed and the controller, just, litereally, worked. Like No set up what so ever. just plug and started playing immediately.

Well the buttons in the game as all Xbox buttons so it may have native xbox controller support and may not have native dual shock support. I rarely find games with native dual shock support.

Im using a dual shock 4 controller, (Playstation 4 controller) and im using the application reWASD(paid version) to make any game see it as a xbox controller so any game that works with xbox controller, i can use my PS controller for.

Heard - thanks for following up everybody guess I need to either pay for a program or go buy an xbox controller. Wonder if they still sell the cheap 3rd party 360 controllers

Yup, thats the route i went since ive already been in your situation years ago.
There is free alternatives like this application i used to use called DS4windows. But its functionality is limited tho.

I ended up paying for reWASD since it has incredibility robust features that i found was worth the money.

But if all you want is to use your dual shock to play games that support xbox controller and nothing else, then the free DS4windows is the route i would recommend.

So is mine

I really like the controller support as well. My only gripe with it is that the UI in combat is too discreet. Not seeing skills outside of triggering the wheels feels really odd especially for casters.

I'll play with it more later when I'm on my steam deck but I'm quite happy with how they went with it.

Found a fix hover over the game in the library right click, go to manage, find controller layout click it and disable steam input mode. The controller support is very good changes the feel of the game in a way.

Please report this as a ticket to them maybe? That way someone from their team will at least have that information in mind for a future improvement.
