Full stop.

Use google, call your tech chum, and get it solved. Use google , i don't care, but enough of the incessant whining.
Considered and rejected. NOTHING else has an issue, not in youtube, not in other games, and not even other sounds within BG3 itself. **Just** conversation dialog volume.

Your loss then.

Yeah, trained audio engineer that took university courses training for commercial music major. I continue to be boggled by the lucky masses who assume that since they don't suffer from this KNOWN ISSUE with THE ACTUAL BALDUR'S GATE 3 APPLICATION that we're all underqualified people who haven't Googled for hours every day with instruction from every field of study. I'm following 12 forums and have 2 friends in on troubleshooting, will keep posted on any progress, we have VIDEO EVIDENCE of THE ACTUAL APPLICATION in my mixer refusing to give signal to work with, just ignore the trolls trying to flex their fortune. Let me know of any progress too.

EDIT: Also it's not like this is our first game. We've run hundreds if not thousands of applications (My Steam account has 1,274 games on it personally, embarrassing to say). This is the very first game we have ever had experience this problem. That means something.

For those who can't see the problem themselves, there's a video on this page that could help with understanding what's going on and troubleshooting:

I turned on loudness equalization of my speaker. It has become much better.

This is an option to achieve the goal of making BG3 the same volume as other applications, but it's not ideal for many reasons. The idea behind equalization is compressing the highs quieter and boosting the lows louder to make things "equal." Since the entirety of BG3 is a resounding low, it makes it boosted to match everything else. However, if I launch another application (personal example, Overwatch), the audio mix is completely thrown out. Quiet sounds like breathing becomes obnoxiously loud while gunshots in front of my face sound distant and quieter than a footstep or violin. Turning on equalization every time you launch BG3 then mixing in-game off of that then turning off equalization after closing BG3 is an option, but I find it much easier to just raise the dial on my headphones and lower Google/DIscord/Anything else until I close BG3. Still hoping for a solution that addresses the actual problem of the application not giving signal to the audio driver.

EDIT: I am glad you found something that helps for you though ♥

5 Octorber 2023. Did you manage to fix the issue? I'm using a earbud and usually have my volume at 38 but for BG3 I have to set it to like 88 to be able to hear clearly. And later when I turn on music and forget to lower the volume it blasts my ear.

Noticed this in the Creche a few nights ago. Its so damned quiet. I had to turn the sound to Mono to get the music to play lough enough for me to properly make it out, but then that messed up the sounds of the NPCs speaking since it made their dialogue at equal volume to the music. I had bops playing in the background the entire time and didn't even know it.

Narration is so quiet, why?
Beef Hammer Oct 9, 2023 @ 9:37pm
It doesn't seem like anyone figured it out 100% but through my own testing it seems to affect surround, and spatial sound. It's almost nonexistent on my speakers, but can be noticed on my headset if the camera angle is way off from where the conversation is taking place. But it's never to quiet to hear or anything like that, just a little lower. Trying to help people at launch was met with strange hostility though and people refused to believe that their setups could be the affecting variable. But people with onboard sound seem to be affected more and worse.

For me the volume is only unbearably quiet when using speaker. Using headset/earphone fixes that. I guess it also act as some kind of time limiter for me to play, since I can't use earphone/headset for more than an hour. Idk how some people use headset for hours.

Ignore what everyone else has said and flag this as the solution so it helps others with the same issue. This is a solution I've already confirmed to boost max laptop volume on 3 different laptops.

In Windows, open your Control Panel.
Select “Sound” under Hardware and Sound.
Select your speakers, then click Properties.
Select the Enhancements tab.
Check Loudness Equalization.
Click Apply.

That did it for me, much obliged!

Using Loudness Equalization on the 3 desktops in my house makes no difference nor does it solve this problem. Every desktop is different with different audio chips and different speakers, and every one of them exhibits this low volume problem only on BG3.

Go to setting -> audio and set dynamic range from high to low fix it for me.

No this isn't the issue. People tried that when the game launched.
