Split screen forced single player when using controller
I'm playing Baldur's Gate 3 as a single player with one connected Xbox controller on PC.

I only have one controller connected, but the game automatically adds a second character when you press a button to skip the first opening cinematic. You can go to the pause menu and choose to disconnect the second character, but any button press like "A" to select something, will add the second character again.

The behavior while in split screen basically controls both sides of the screen with the one controller, moving and making menu selections simultaneously.

I'm sure this was an oversight because it seems little or no testing was done with controller support while in early access. I will wait for a hotfix before I play the game and I'm disappointed.

How do you split screen? Can you tell me how you did it? Ive been trying to test split screen out and can't get it work.

me as well, I can't for the life of me figure out how to get my controller to work, let alone even see a split screen interface of any kind. My copy seems to be online only.
i feel ya. no idea how to fix this

I have the same problem. what is this?

There seems to be a bug that when you press the A button you sign in with another character for local coop.

Please fix this Larian, as i can't play for long without controller.

+1 for this. This is a problem for folks who may be unable to use a keyboard and mouse.

Same here. Restarting the game helps, but you can never tell when this happens next time - in an hour or in five minutes

I Can't even play the game because of this issue. I'm trying to play on my TV without a mouse and keyboard and this is ruining it for me but I been waiting so long for the game I don't want to return it.

Plug in two controllers and press a button on every controller -> split screen. Do it after starting a new game (in character creation or later).

Mine is automatically splitting the screen with one controller and adding a second character automatically

Turning steam input off worked.

Steam -> settings -> controller -> disable steam input on the controller type you are using.

I had it happen because steam input and ds4 windows were both on and were duplicating my controller. Forgot to choose one after restarting my pc and having ds4 windows launch at startup when I had previously chosen to use the steam input.

Happened to me too, but I actually did want to play with split screen and two controllers. But when the two screens appears, only one controller works and it controls the two screens at the same time; the other controller does nothing.

Turn off steam input in BG3 properties and it works. I just figured it out myself and I'm using
