Blackscreens with an RTX 3080 make the game unplayable..
Hi,

I know the 3000 series is known for this issue and I had it with a fair share of games in the past, but Baldurs Gate 3 is the first game that is literally unplayable because of the blackscreen issue.

My computer has no issue handling the game, but after minutes (!) the game always causes my system to go in a black screen. I don't think the pc crashes, it's just the gpu that seemingly turns off or something.

I've seen this issue in the past, with Star Wars Jedi Survivor. Here it game out every few hours, sometimes. Sometimes it didn't come up for weeks. Other games, like Warhammer 3, that keep my pc constantly on it's limit, on the other hand not once caused this to happen after hundreds of hours.

And this game here..? 7 minutes were the most I could get out of it without a black screen so far :(

I am using the newest drivers and I tried different cables (HDMI, DP) and I am not sure what's causing this to happen this frequently. I can say it's not a temperature issue or power issue. Way more demanding games by the way don't run into this, or they don't run into this so fast.

Does anyone have an idea what's causing this? I know people complained about this issue for years, ever since the 3000 series came out.. but I was unable to find anything pointing me towards a solution :(

Just went to play and in the first prerendered cinematic with the first party member and flayer and I got black screen, max fan speed, audio still playing fine.

I played a year or 2 ago with my 3070 with no issues. Got a 4090 now and I had a similar issue with diablo 4 but I resolved it by updating mobo bios.

not really running anything super crazy or tweaked.

10900k w/ 32gb @3866mhz and a 4090.

No special overclocks on the cpu, just the default boost. case has 10 fans with decent wire management so it shouldn't be overheating. Gpu was either on default options or some pretty tame overclocks like max power limit and core/mem clocks at 250mhz each.

Gonna try some diablo 4 for an hour and see if the issue comes back. I only updated my gpu drivers this morning. I'll try to come back with my findings to help out.

Game's running mostly fine on my RTX 3070. If your drivers are up to date I don't think the card is the issue.
For a few friends with same card (and many on Nvidia driver forum) they had same issue with latest gpu driver. One tried the GPU driver update hotfix Nvidia just released and the other tried an older driver and both now have no isssues with the black screen
It is work that my 3070Ti driver roll back to 522.25, after that black screen does not repeat

I Had been fighting the same issue for a few days, and hopefully finally found a solution. Had black screens every 2 to 15 minutes in Baldur's Gate 3 and a bit less often in Hogwarts Legacy. All stress tests running for hours did not cause any crash (Furmark, 3dmark, almost every other possible test ) The source of the problem was PSU, to be more precise - it's single PCI-E cable used for both power in connectors in my RTX 3070. As I added a separate PCI-E cable to use on each of the connectors, the problems seems resolved. I might add, that I already ordered a new, more powerful PSU, but may cancel the order if the game does not crash through the night.

Just for reference, my PSU is SeaSonic Platinum 650W, which is borderline enough for my processor and 3070.
