Can I be an oathbreaker and still be a good paladin?
I really like the oathbreaker subclass, but I don't want to be evil in my first playthrough.

Very much so. Oathbreakers aren't inherently evil.

Hello Aug 3, 2023 @ 3:40am
A good paladin is an oathbreaker.
Lucyfar Aug 3, 2023 @ 3:40am
you can break your oath, become a oathbreaker and then only do good stuff and play lawful

In regular D&D you can even redeem yourself and take your Oath again.

Whether this is possible in BG3 remains to be seen.

I also wonder if they plugged the Respec loophole. If you can respec then you could probably change off of Paladin, then back to Paladin and take your Oath again. If they plugged the loophole though, it would be remembered that you broke your Oath.

You can redeem your oath for 2000 gold I think it was.

An oathbraker is quite evil, just look at the spelllist.

Oathbreaker Paladin is a unique subclass that focuses on darkness and corruption, allowing you to play an antihero or a fallen paladin seeking redemption.

So No dont do it unless you want to break the oath you choose defining your Character.

You can. Oathbreakers just follow their own code-or sometimes lack thereof- instead of an Oath.

If I remember correctly, they stated that it would be possible. And will be prerequisite if you want to respecc your pally to something else. If I'm not mistaken they said that in the last PFH, but I'm not sure.

Depending on how they interpret the Oath of Vengeance, falling can be caused by a good act (showing mercy to your enemies). And being an Oathbreaker does not require you do to evil deeds, you can be virtuous and striving for redemption.

No it depends what oath you choose and if you break it then you would be turning evil that is what it says.

Yeah, but I want to know if your character will be evil once you become one.

I would love to play a kind of oathbreaker that fell from grace but never lost his/her humanity in the process.

A good paladin doesn't break oaths :steamsad:
