Speak to animals.

Im not familiar with D&D and have little understanding of the classes. Is the talk to animals ability tied to a certain class or is it a perk like in DOS2.

Druids can speak to animals if they are wildshaped, certain spells and magical items will also enable it.

Bards and rangers get the spell as well, as do the forest gnome race. I think there's a warlock path that gets it as well.

Thank you for the answers. I loved talking to the animals in DOS2, I'm thinking about going with a druid but I'd prefer a wizard or warlock. I'll have to research how long of a path it is for the warlock to unlock that ability.

There are also scrolls and potions that enable speaking with animals.

Bard, Druid and Ranger can have Speak With Animals spell (1st level)

but there's a lot of Speak With Animals potions in the game, in the early access i found like 5-6 of them and used them when i really needed to talk with an animal

Paladin Oath of the Ancients should get it at level 3 as well.

3rd level. Basically, it's of no concern. Wizards can also gain Speak With Animals if they find a scroll (and you will). And, yes, there are items, too. But, if you want to play a spellcaster other than Druid and want to be guaranteed early access to it, go Warlock. It's a good, fun class anyway, really.

In EA, every location that had an animal, had a "speak with animals" potion which was easy to find nearby as well.
