Multiclass question?!
Is BG3 giving ability score points at class level or character level?

Class, same as tabletop.

Following the 5e ruleset, you only get Ability Score Increases at marked intervals by your class (specifically class levels 4, 8, 12 with the exception of Fighter getting an additional one at 6 and Rogue getting one at 10).

Even if you dipped into Fighter for 6 levels, you would only get the chance to get 4 total ASIs or feats. The only way to get more is to go pure Fighter or pure Rogue.

Yep i assume so as well so what my real question is if I multi a sorc/lock are you better off going 4 in lock to make sure you get the ability or going 2 or 3 lock for the 5th lvl spells

I can't answer that. Most of the classes are heavily front loaded and often you are better off picking up a bunch of Kewl Powerz rather than a feat or stat bump, that said hitting is the number one way of taking out enemies, so getting your striking attribute to 20 (charisma for sor/locks) is often really strong.

It may feel bad to lose out on a feat/ASI but you have to consider what you gain and
lose. For instance if you take 4 lock levels, the maxiumum spell level on your sorcerer will be 4th and if you are taking all the lock levels first, you won't get that until you are level 11.

Yeah i kind of realized this but was hoping someone had insight as to what would be better, I am leaning toward 2 or 3 in lock and make up the difference with an item? maybe ?
