Should you even recruit companions you don't intend to use?
Is it just cleaner to recruit the ones you intend to keep in your party and ignore the others. I can't see how your gonig to be able to complete companion questlines etc if they just sit at camp so why bother?

Considering you can swap people in and out whenever you want why wouldn't you? More people to talk to at camp, more chance for personal side stories and quests from them, possibly more things like having a character that has skills your other members don't have for something.

I usually ignore Gale as I don’t use mages and he costs magic items. I probably won’t recruit Karlach either as she is a Barbarian which I don’t care for much.

With the amount of options there might be the very rare chance companions you don't recruit progress their own story naturally rather than 'doing' things while wasting away in camp.

I would assume you can grab a recruit to do their story line and put them back once your done, so there is that. But if you never intend to do their story, I would think no.

They could add a reason for camp characters to be useful for something, but I don't get a feeling that collecting ncp's just for camp is what their going for.
The companion stories will progress even if you leave them at camp.

I certiantly intend to. I need sacrifices for whatever evil god may fix their gaze upon my character.

I mean why not! It is of course your game, 100% do whatever you want to do. But if its content, its content!

Why not?

interactions with a steady cast? the key point of the game, really.

This. No reason not to, and unless you want to "save" content for other runs you might actually discover interesting interactions, side quests, etc.

Wait, is this a guess, or you stating a known fact? That is cool if I don't have to drag around unwanted characters to find out their stories.

I mean, character quest xp, possible unique items, and disposable sacrificial meat that cost you nothing to have sitting in your camp until useful.

Yeah, I would very much like to know the answer to this as well. It's the whole crux of my op.

Swap em out injured party for fresh party members to continue on a bit or for special interactions (needed high strength to make a jump) or as loot mules even if you have your main group.
