About multiclassing and action surge
Is multiclassing fighter lvl2 and a caster as good as i think it is? I dont have a wealth of knowledge in D&D or baldurs gate so i would like to know.

Seems like getting to cast a leveled spell and then action surging to cast another seems like a must have for all casters. Especially with metamagic since you can twin or quicken. Maybe even more crazy since larian i think confirmed that multiclassing can use 2 or more classes at once. (I am aware of the drawbacks of multiclassing too much)

Action surge perhaps in general seems like a no brainer for casters. Why wouldnt you go for it? Am i missing something?

Action surge is really powerful, especially for spell casters. The main reason why people don't take it as often as spellcasters is because: 1, the stat points required to multi-class (though in bg3 that won't matter anymore) and 2, sometimes it's just not worth it to sacrifice those 2 levels. At certain levels you gain access to higher level spells, those 2 levels could be the difference between you being able to fly, turn invisible, cast extremely powerful damage spells. In power builds/min-max builds it's really common to see action surge being taken because at that point you KNOW the exact amount of levels/spells you'll have access to since it's all pre planned

Speaking from table top experience not game one (some things are differenent):

Keep in mind you are going to be 2 levels behind in your caster class to do that, will not have a min-maxed stat built because of the Class requirements and will not get your level 11 power boost since level 12 is maxed afaik.

So yeah, you can technically cast a lot more spells per turn but they'll be weaker.
On the other hand more spells per turn and armor proficiency (if you start as fighter).

What you're missing is the opportunity cost. Action Surge and extra proficiencies is great. spending two levels to get it, two levels you could have spent improving your primary class and unlocking new spell levels, is going to hurt though. Is it worth it?

Your mileage may vary. In my opinion in tabletop, the answer is no. But respec in BG3 at least allows you to dabble and see if it's good for you. Action Surge is only once per short rest, so this is also the sort of thing that will scale up if you're the sort of player to slam the rest button all the time. We'll see what sort of implications resting too often has in 1.0.

6th rank wizard spells are stuff like Disintegrate, Chain Lightning, Scatter. I won't give that up for anything.
