I played BG1 and discovered how much I hated rtwp. My mage kept running out in front of the rest of the party due to the very short range of magic back then.
This is why I never bothered with BG2. I hate(d) rtwp. The character scripts also didn't work so well and meant certain death if you didn't pay close attention to everyone in your party.

Yep, played them. Was also in Everquest beta and startup around the time and joined a guild on there named Companions of the Gate.

Ahh Everquest theres another great game to take me back. I played BG1 when I had no D&D knowledge and thought a wizard just ran outa spells when they were used and had no idea how to get them back(or if they even came back) lol.

Same here. My only experience with RPG back then was Alternate Reality. I had no clue how to get my mage to use his spells again and thought they were useless characters. lol

i have and plenty, in that order, its in the same setting after the events of the first two games, using the current version of the rulset.

they undoubtably improved upon the graphics (i'd hope so after 2 decades) and fixed the gameplay to be closer to D&D's, so i have no major complaints at least from EA, how well the story actually is i can only say after i get to see it fully

Yeah but the manuals back then were amazing. Boxes with art, maps, books. Now you sit and wait and pray the game downloads without errors.

Ikr, still have my BG2 map from when when I was like 13. It's on the wall currently XD

Are you kidding me? I so badly wish I kept the boxes and content. For $20-$30 you got real value. I'm kicking myself.

Lol thank goodness I wasnt the only one. I picked it up after a year or so later and after I played some D&D and retried that "worthless" wizard and had a blast lol.

Played both when they came out.
Cut my teeth on the gold box games that basically taught me rudimentary D&D.

In BG1&2 Bhaal was the driving force (lore wise) behind the story and events, BG3 act 1 has a lot of hints that the Dead Three (of which Bhaal is one) will be the force behind BG3's story, imo. So in that sense, BG3 would be a continuation of the story from BG1&2. There are also various characters that will be returning in BG3 (not in Act1) from the original series.

If you have some time to kill before launch, I'd recommend anyone unfamiliar with "Descent into Avernus", the D&D campaign, to check it out. It was released as a prequel to BG3 and the events of BG3 take place directly after the events of the campaign. It's not necessary to know the story in order to enjoy BG3 but having played Act 1, I felt I received a lot of benefit from doing so. Searching YouTube for "Descent into Avernus" yields several results of people doing story narrations or summaries for this purpose.

Hey! Just curious what your in game name was? I was one of the people that came from the original Baldur's Gate Chat Forums and founded CotG (Lythander, then later Rolzz) with Moon, and others.
