Little concerned that this game will just be a derpy meme-fest
A dev tweeted saying that bear sodomy has "got nothin' on what's still to come".

Uhhh... OK?

I'm sure it'll be funny for a while seeing all the weird and bizarre sexual interactions that have been included in the game, but when it's just being done to fuel memes and get the game more publicity it kind of reduces the whole thing into a joke.

Dungeons & Dragons definitely has a light comedy element, but just being out and out ridiculous and goofy for the sake of increasing sales could really diminish this game's legacy and appeal.

EDIT: Thanks for making this a mostly respectful discussion. Clearly this is a concern for a significant amount of players.

Shouldn't come as a shock at this point.

This, dunno why they had to butcher Baldur's gate's franchise doing it, disappointing

I don't really see how an ambiguous "got nothin' on what's still to come" will do that

It's called marketing and generating attention. You don't have to read every tweet by a dev. And if you think one or two selected plot points that take a couple of seconds represent the 100+ hours game, you are very mistaken. The reason those points were singled out for marketing is because they are unusual.

I do not understand why, with all the information and all the material released over the years, there are people who insist on focusing only on a bear that appeared just for 5 seconds of video.

The franchise remains intact

Because they're reading things in the most negative possible light.

I agree, it's going to be very immersion breaking if my RP adventure is constantly interrupted by 'funnies'.

Implying that most D&D tables aren't that on some level.

Generally a bit of comedy is welcome in between all the murder.

Good Lord.
Aren't their other outlets for this?-Romance is suppose to enhance a good game, not be the game, at least in this case.
So either people are trying to ruin the experience or people did ruin the experience.
You say that as if the first 2 games (or even Bioware games in general at that era) weren't already filled with cringe, jokes, and meme-references before memes were really a thing. That was just as much a part of their charm as the serious moments.

I assume that is what BG3 will be. It will have it's serious times, it's meme times, and its 'wtf was that?' times just like it's predecessors. I mean, one of the most popular BG2 mods is one where you get to romance and bang your half-sister Imoen.

This stuff is HARDLY new for the franchise.

Uncensored tentacle holding with mindflayers. Moms gonna freak.

You know what can alleviate those concerns? Actually playing the game. Because it's nothing like that.

Need something to complain about for the sake of complaining. Hundreds of hours of content doing other stuff compared to minutes of intimate moments with romanced partners, but this is what some people focus on. They're clearly looking for something to be upset of disappointed about.

Basically, there's a mix of trolls, and wildly entitled people that think that because they played Baldur's Gate 25 years ago, they are entitled to the exact game they personally want, and see literally any change from that as an attack on the integrity of Bladur's Gate, nay, dungeons and dragons itself!
Just ignore it, you're not going to change the mind of someone who just wants to be mad.
