Is there a way to start downloading a game on a schedule?
So, I won't be home tomorrow, but it would be nice to start downloading the game on a timer, because 150 GB is quite a lot. Is there a way to do this somehow, by scripted or otherwise? In steam there is a game update on a schedule but this is not quite what I need.

Well, easiest way would be to just leave your PC on at home and use a remote desktop app to trigger the download manually.

(you need to set that up while at home tho, not complicated but just downloading the app isn't enough, needs some config on the PC)

I'm wondering if setting scheduled auto-updates would work

I would delete the saves and mods, then delete the game and re-download it. Then set the auto-update hours to be just after the expected release time (for you).

(NOTE: This does go against the advice of Larian to wait and do a new install, but as it's a 'fresh' install of EA with no saves, I think there is far less chance of an issue/conflict.)

So, hopefully when the release becomes available, the process will see the new version is available at XX:XX and then start "updating" it, which will end up being a full re-install of the game.

There's a chance there will be a popup or something that might interfere, but if you aren't around to start it yourself, it might be worth trying this anyway.

If you have the steam phone app you can do this if you link it

The steam mobile app allows you to install to a PC you're logged into steam on. (And since its the 2 factor option for steam you should probably have it...)

Use the Steam mobile app it should let you trigger an installation.

As the others mentioned, just use the Steam App.

As said, you simply need to leave your PC running *and* have the Steam client running, then you can initiate remote installs from within the app.

Simply browse to the game in your library and it should show you the option to install it on [name of your PC].

Thanks, steam app seems to be the best way to start downloading it remotely.

Wow. Just tried the steam app, and I didn't realise how simple it was to do this (as I've never used the app to review or do something to games in my library list).

Quite impressed, and yes, this should handle this situation perfectly.

Thanks, didn't realize that! I use a remote desktop app for other reasons already but if you don't already have it set up, using the steam app is the superior & far more convenient option.
