They went for the tasha system of +2 +1 so you get to pick and chose for your build instead, but you still get the key traits of your race like lucky on gnomes

Yeah it literally just made it so you don't want to roll a Half Elf for every class if you care about stats at all, and if you don't like having the option you can just put the points into where they would have gone before the change anyway

As I see it, they went from one trench to the other. Half* and Humans are worthless now. We got an extra Dwarf and some remix there. And you can now make a party of a single race with no penalty regardless of class.

Unfortunately, they didn't use Tasha's system or the One D&D system, just Larian home-brew. Seems a bit half-baked really, supposedly they adjusted humans and half-elves, but from what I've heard, not very well.

Not that I have a preference, I was fine with the PHB racial modifiers, it gave the races more classical fantasy character. They still have racial abilities, but those abilities haven't been re-tooled for the +2/+1 system, which really should have been done.

So Half-Elf can have +2 Charisma along with another +2 and +1? Because if they only get a +2 and +1 now instead of having a +2 Charisma and +1 and +1 than it's a nerf to Half-Elf.

It's also a nerf to Shield Dwarves who were likely very underplayed ot begin with. So now instead of having a +2 Str and +2 Con they just get a +2 and +1 of their chosen stats.

Human having a +1 in all is now just a +2 and +1.

Feels like this change actually just made the race choice a lot less interesting. It's like Larian wanted people to push people away from Half-Elf and Human, because they literally complained that an absurdly high percentage of players in Early Access were just playing white men and they didn't like that.

Feels like you have even less reason to play other races now because of this change. Like I played a Shield Dwarf Barbarian Default Ginger girl in EA, and I have no reason to do that anymore now because why? Sure I can play it if I want to, but you could literally play any race-class combo you wanted before.

Surprised WoTC allowed this as their thing is you use our system for using our license.

The shield dwarf is entirely gone now for those not knowing. And there are now 3 dwarves.

They probably encouraged it. Tasha's Cauldron is officially from WoTC and has been a thing for 3 years now. The newest changes to One DnD essentially remove it as well.

WoTC are trying to get away from tying stats to race and make it more about background, for better or worse.

Just as wrong now as it was the first person who said it. You cannot replicate all races with +2/+1.

I liked the shield dwarf as barb or cleric myself.

Problem is this can be seen as the progression of D&D with the you can play any class with any race but now without even the slightest of drawbacks.

Why I prefer 2nd edition racial limitation and restriction, none of the joke classes like dwarf or orc wizard or gnome barb. Paladins we’re special and rare not as common as a peasant farmer. ( I could see different race versions of them but they still should be rare to see not common as a fighter)

I wonder if the allowing any race to be any class absurdity helped sales that much. I really can’t see fantasy purest breaking down the doors to grab a 5e copy because of it. Video game players playing a bunch of stats not a character I can see that.

Excuse me, but the +2/+1 is from Tasha's. To everyone saying it isn't.

Personally, I hate it because some races have more stat point bonuses than 3.
For example a human.

Also some races get up to 4 to 5 point bonuses flat or with negatives in others. Full blooded Orcs for example and Half-Elves.

I guess I'm just a racist, (According to Popular Media) because it isn't far fetched to believe some species are just better at things than others. A tribe of orcs that lives on mountains and hunts/fights should know different talents then a human farmer that only grows beans.
Elves live for almost a thousand years, why shouldn't they be smarter then someone that only lives for 20 years?

Whatever, someone is bound to be triggered by my post. Hope I don't get banned...:cleandino:

They are using Tasha's rules for stat distribution. Rather then each race getting a set stat drop, you simply get to decide where to put your stats. Fact is most 5e players use this rule now and very few use the old system anymore. So more or less the devs are just adding this as its such a widely used optional rule.

Their doing that why not add the extra class as well? Artificer along with pistol and arquebus ?
I mean your crashing a ship ( spell jammer) so why not open it up more?

I'd hope not, or there would be nothing but half-elves everywhere.
