Speak with Animals question

I think it would be fun to play the game as a character who can speak to animals, and, if possible, not to have this limited by it taking up a spell slot.

So I gather one way to go about this is to get to second level Warlock and choose Beast Speech as one of my Eldritch invocations.

But if I didn't want to go that direction, it is unclear to me whether I could accomplish the same thing by picking Forest Gnome as my race. I know that doing so will allow my character to speak with animals, but I am not sure whether it's in the form of a spell that can only be refreshed for a second use by resting.

Does anyone know for sure?

It can only be cast once per long rest, but it lasts until your next long rest, so you don't need to cast it more often.

Forest Gnomes can cast Speak with Animals at will in BG3.

Druids can also communicate freely with animals while wildshaped, which refresh on a short rest.

ofc u can speak with animals, how else would you know if they consent or not?

I hope that there's an amulet or ring that gives you the spell in the full release version of act 1. It would be very useful and save a spell slot.

100% there will be.

You can also probably craft potions to Speak with Animals too.

Ritual Casting should also be in the full release, and Speak With Animals should be a Ritual. Which means you should be able to cast it for free if you have Ritual Caster. Wizards don't even need it prepared, just in their book.
