What does the guild artisan background mean exactly?
"Your skill in a particular craft has earned you membership in a mercantile guild, offering privileges and protection while engaging in your art. Repairing and discovering rare crafts will bring new inspiration."

Like, does it mean that in the story i can pick what particular craft my character is good at? Like i can say i invent medicines or im a history teacher or... is it more vague?

Will i walk down the street and someone will ask me to paint a painting for them and il get some reward for that? Will i just be considered like a handyman plumber who can also make sculptures and just be good with fine mechanisms and artsy stuff in general?
What am i signing up for if i pick that background?

Also, i have not played the game at all, so im clueless and im just waiting for august 3d to try it for the first time. Ive only seen the character creation screen...

No idea lots of stuff won't be known until we actually get the full game because several skills and abilities are null and void in a video game type setting. Like awakened mind for warlock lets you talk to any creature within 30 feet using telepathy. Which has zero benefit as you are your companions you know everything they know so there's no reason they'd need to talk to each other. I'm assuming skills like this are changed somehow to better fit a video game setting.

The background you pick determines how you gain inspiration points.

Edit: Inspiration points can be used to re-roll a conversation check you can have a maximum of 4 at a time and they are shared across the party.
