No you don't. Not in 5E.
In fact, the heaviest armor doesn't even allow a dexterity bonus to AC, which kind of turns dex into a dump stat for characters wearing heavy armor and being on the front lines, not needing more than 12 tops.
Of course, they could change it in the full release but it seems like an odd thing to suddenly change.
Oh wow, I learned something today!
Happy to help.
Basically the lighter the armor the more dex helps out. Light armor doesn't have a limit for how much dexterity helps out so having as much dexterity raises your AC by very large amounts.
Medium Armor doesn't have a strength requirement either but does have a limit to how much dexterity brings to your AC, (14 dex is all you need if you're going to be a medium armor wearing person because anything higher will exceed the +2 dex bonus limit).
Heavy Armor starts having strength requirements but dexterity becomes less useful overall (still great for initiative rolls or stealth checks, but most heavy armor will cause you to roll stealth with disadvantage).
there should at least be penalties to those who lack strength while using heavy armor.
Considering we know there's items that sets your strenght value to 16 or 18 you could still dump your str to 8 and wear plate.
