So Open Hand Monks get Quivering Palm?
https://youtu.be/D0bXIC_FCBs?t=1401

That's a 17th level ability. Maybe we get our subclass capstones earlier across the board? Unless Nick was referring to Open Hand monks in general, not specific to this game.

Ain't no way. Don't do that, friendo in the cone of shame. Don't give me hope.

That would be really weird if they gave a 17th level subclass capstone at lvl 12 and would really discourage multiclass builds.

It would be absolutely crazy. I just can't really see another way to really interpret what he said. He was clearly speaking about Quivering Palm, and I have no reason to believe it wasn't in the context of this game.

What other Open Hand feature "explodes" people? Unless Nick was talking about the subclass in the context of D&D as a whole, as opposed to this game, how else should I interpret this?

Quivering Palm is nonsensically broken, though. It's the kind of ability a kid would make up for their character. I highly doubt it's gonna make it into the game unchanged; 3 ki for essentially an insta kill on any target is bananners.

Not saying its not, but Nick bringing it up was like getting hit by stunning strike. Like.. there ain't no way, right?

I mean, if they moved it down a bunch of levels, it is very possible they also made it less powerful.

Prepare yourself for some crazy ♥♥♥♥. It's in Larian's nature.
Zangetsu Aug 1, 2023 @ 1:00pm
Yeah thats does imply the open hand subclass capstone will be in the game, but maybe I am misreading. Like I said earlier, that would be odd if they brought a lvl 17 ability to lvl 12 lvl cap

So someone I showed this clip pointed out that Larian heavily reworked the Open Hand features, like changing the damage type on your punches, and causing some sort of chain reaction explosion, it's probably that, and not quite quivering palm.

I guess it'd make sense to give them literally anything other than the sanctuary ability at 11, that ♥♥♥♥'s worthless, lel.

Touch of Death?

You son of a beach, I'm in.
CloudKira Aug 1, 2023 @ 1:03pm
Would be nice...

Maybe some classes will get beyond 12 level and some not?

Like in BG2 SoA some classes had a higher cap than others.

In the table top its actually not that broken. Yes it bypasses HP if pass but its a full action after you land a hit and its a con save which most things at that lvl have bonkers saves, and if they are any kind of boss they have legendary resistances which can be a minigame to play around. Either your party gos full save or suck to break there resitances and you can sneak in a finisher IF they fail, or they go full damage to bring the boss down. My party was full damage so I never really got to bypass legendary resistances.

The damage is on par for a failure with a high level turn. Its also necrotic and commonly resisted.
