Why are the Gith “aliens” ?

I’ve heard it referenced a few times that the Gith are the “aliens of DnD” “their not from here” or some variation of.

They come from space or some thing?

I know nothing of DnD lore btw.

They from the moon or another dimension? In a game with fantastical themes and creatures like Orcs or Dragonborn it seems odd calling another race “aliens”

They exist/come from outside the world of faerun. Basically they are from another plane of existence.

Like demons/devils. Those 2 are natives to Avernus, making them alien to faerun.

Specifically, they come from the Astral Plane, the same plane the Illithids (Mind Flayers) are from.

They reside in the Astral Plane, which is kinda sorta "space" in DnD. They are not , strictly speaking, native to Faerun, even if they have a creche or three on the planet to birth and raise young.

There are two takes on the Gith, either they are decendents from Humans or their origin race is unknown.

Most of their strong holds are in the Astral Plane (the main one is on a body of dead god), but they leave the Astral from time to time to hunt Mindflayers and to breed because time doesn't pass like normal on the Astral.

Yeah, I don't think it really makes sense to refer to them as aliens and kind of breaks the immersion of the style of fantasy the game is supposed to be based on.
