How to skill Minsc?
So I am pretty sure that Minsc and Jaheira will end up in my party as main assets, with myself playing a sorc, Jaheira being my healer/supporter and one dedicated tank that I have not decided on yet. I'd like Minsc to take a melee dd role and be a good target to cast haste on. Would it be a good idea to make him a MC barb/ranger who is good with animals like he used to be in BG2? He'd have the same flavour which I would love, but I have no idea if that would be a good idea or not. I am not very experienced with D&D5 rules, so I am happy for any opinions or ideas.

Minsk, multiclass into barbarian, so that he can throw his hamster into enemy camp...

than press 5-6 times skip turn, and check who survived the hamster.

Not a question we can answer.

Will Minsc still be a ranger?
Will Jaheria Still be a Fighter/Druid?

In the trailers we see Minsc being "resurrected" from some kind of petrification state or something? Been a while since I have seen it. Given his Goodie 2 shoes lack of intelligence character I have been thinking what if he was remade as a Vengence Paladin? Seems fitting to me!

It'll be interesting to see what sort of build he has by default. To match his BG1-2 version, I'd say the Ranger Knight subclass was basically added to the game just for him. He may even have a Rage ability as part of his background, absolving us of the need to give him barb levels.

I mean, Minsc always felt like he kinda should have been a Barbarian, except the class didn't exist yet when he was created. But there's already a barbarian companion, so I'm guessing he's still a ranger.

My Jaheira will be pure druid. I don't want to miss out on spell slots for her, and with 2 melees in a party of four, that will be enough for me. After so many years, it would feel strange to give Minsc a different class than what I remember him to be. So yeah, the nostalgia is playing a big role for me. I still want him to be fun to play and kick some ass!

That would be fantastic indeed! I totally forgot about that.
Maybe we can also get Boo as a playable companion/familiar with the action skill called "Go for the eyes!"?

In BG1 Minsc was a ranger, but at the start of BG2 as a result of having his witch killed he Duel classes into Barbarian.

In 2nd edition, dual classing was very different from 5e multiclassing, you couldn't use your old skills until you surpassed your old level (well not without losing experience points), you could never go back to your old class, you could do it as many times as you were able to qualify for classes, and you started at level 1 in the new class and were effectively a level 1 character running around with a high level party, which meant you gained levels really quickly.

Not gonna like. Just by looking at the title, at first I thought you were asking How to Kill Minsc. Lol

That is not at all what happened, you are very much misremembering. Minsc was a Ranger for his entire BG adventure, and ranger can't even dual into barbarian by the rules those games went by.

Actually according to the BG2 wiki he never actually became a Barbarian, but he did have the Berserk feature, which was similar to a barbarian rage.

Clearly he's a beastmaster ranger who depends on his hamster companion in combat.

I stand corrected. However you are wrong about him not being able to Dual class, you needed to have a 15 in the prime requisite of your old class and a 17 in the prime requisite of your new class and you could switch out once you reached level 2. So if Minsc had the stats he absolutely could have.

What I said was that ranger can't dual into barbarian by the rules Baldur's Gate went by, which is entirely true. The only legal multiclass or dualclass for rangers in those games was Cleric.
