Sounds like story driven games are not you and your wife's cup of tea. I have a 4 player game for Thursday and none of us can wait.
Maybe go play overwatch 2 or the halo campaign?
And they're also talking about every variation possible. You'll never experience the full catalogue of possible cut-scenes in one playthrough.
Not to mention game length is only bad if the game isn't enjoyable and the content isn't meaningful. I've spent 128 hours playing just what is available in Early access and enjoyed every minute of it. You can be sure i'm gonna play the hell out of the full game.
Second, I am very familiar with RPGs and D&D derived RPGs with story elements. I loved Planescape:Torment and played both the original BGs as well as Icewind Dale. But I hated the experience of having to stop and read screen text. Happily, many devs have figured out how to avoid this anachronism in 2023, these guys apparently have not.
Finally, our marriage is not "spiraling downward" lol. We are hardcore gamers who love our lives and our games, but we also enjoy well crafted games that take advantage of modern technological advances to move their stories forward. Reading hours of dialog trees is not our idea of a fun multiplayer gaming experience.
That is all.
174 hours is more than the entire HBO Game of Thrones series.
If you don't like narrative, then to quote Tyrion Lannister:
"You've come to the wrong place."
a game like this reacts to you and your choices
youll never see all of them in a run
