There is one who made a murderhobo video, so assume you can kill most you encounter should you choose too, probably some consequences at some point where leaving more rural areas into more urban ones since there will likely be guards and stuff.

But sound like you can otherwise pursue any deerstalker fantasies you may or may not have. Of being a murder hobo.

you'd assume wrong
won't that break the main storyline?

So you can't kill tieflings but you can kill goblin children?

Racism.

From my understanding the main storyline is meant to be broken and messed with. Part of the charm of this game is to feel like an AUTHENTIC DND EXPERIENCE. Which usually means the players ignoring the DM's story and killing important NPCs and being dummies.

does this affect the story in an impactful way?
While messing around in EA I killed Lae'zel during a certain camp scene, and all the other Origin characters had their own reactions to it. Her companion quest failed, hard to tell what the long-term consequences would be though.
Killing Shadowheart results in you getting her MacGuffin.

So, will the other companions think of Tav as a sick sociopath if he decides to kill a companion for no reason? is there any real consequence for me being a sick murderer?

In the DoS games you can kill essential NPC's. It just ruins your game.

IIRC.

You can kill everyone you come across and it'll influence the plot going forward.
