Alternatively you can get there at 4 and then just do some easier quests.
My composition was a bm ranger pc, karlach shadow and gale. The fight started with bulette very close to my party and i got initiative first - so things were straight forward. Blinded and Webbed it with familiar and pet, then just proceeded to unload my attacks on it and it didn't last 2 turns.
best part was i had Gut with me, reanimated the corpse and took it to literally demolish the duegars in a quest after.
Level 5 would be recommended if it is your first Run imo.
Some things may catch you off guard down there, with the health pool level 5 brings and potential Level 3 spells on casters, it feels way more managable. In BG3, especially in the first ones - the difference between one level and another is pretty significant. Maybe take a look around elsewhere and finish stuff to get lvl 5 first, it is not necessary, but it does make Things way easier.
It simply is a harder way of life.
So entering at level 3 or lower, while possible is not recommended. At all. While doable at 3 with extreme caution and luck, level 4 is a good place to start... and level 5 is when a team of 4 should be ok in many ways.
Usually.
Mostly.
By the time the team is level 5, where a huge power spike happens, two major things come together. With casters starting to really come into their own with spells that are a real upgrade, and strikers often getting their second attack, the things that can be handled changes dramatically. And, of course, the second thing is a growing familiarity with some of what your fave team composition can actually DO. Knowing your tactics well is far better than having the new options, overall... and by then the team (and the player) are more used to how they can work together. The combos that can be done. Level 1 skills and spells are, in essence, just as useful in end-of-campaign fights (bless, as an example, or command) as they are in those first levels.
