These classes depend on opposite ability modifiers. As a caster, try to multi-class into classes that use the same primary stat. Be SAD (Single Ability dependent) and not MAD (Multiple Ability Dependent).
But an interview with Larian in Italy said they've made changes to make multiclassing between casters more viable.
I can't imagine they'd allow a Wizard to use INT for all spells cast outside INT caster lists. Or even for your spell list to still increase if you're taking another class.
this answers my question thank you
makes sense otherwise would be little op
even with the diferent spell casting ability
Some utility or buffs dont rely on your spellcasting ability
Adding onto Mythic Alric's response, the only time you want to dip into another caster class is if the first level perks are worth it for your build.
For instance, starting as a 1st level cleric gets you all the prof's of the cleric. So you can in a sense build a wizard who can wear heavy armor by dipping 1 level in War or Light Cleric, then taking all your other levels in wizard. Which allows you to get the "Protection from Good and Evil" and "Shield of Faith" spells which are good protection spells at any level.
My personal take given the games max level is 12, Wizard's/Sorc's spell list for tier 6 has some juicy options I don't want to sacrifice using multi-class.
