Use the “Jump” action

If you find yourself just out of reach of a melee attack and don’t want/can’t use a ranged attack or spell, try jumping instead of moving to the enemy.

I don’t know how it works but it apparently does, jumping to my enemy allows me to reach them for a melee attack when I normally won’t reach them and since jumping only uses a bonus action, you can attack on the same turn.

Yeap. Jumping usually consumes less movement than walking even if no corners are being cut. But whether you should depends on how much the bonus action matters to you for that turn.

Jumping costs a fixed amount of move, but the distance of the jump depends on your strength.

If you have a high STR, you get more distance than you pay, making jump a way to eke out a bit of extra distance.
