Which spell caster is the strongest and why ?

I know almost nothing about spell caster besides have gale in the party and playing a warlock once . warlock was pretty fun but not sure if thats the peak of greatness

In normal DnD 5e, if you cast a spell with a bonus action, you are restricted that turn to otherwise only casting a cantrip with a casting time of one action. BG3 does not seem to actually make use of this rule. With that in mind, Sorcerers are likely the strongest spellcaster simply due to Quickened Spell, because unlike in normal DnD, they can fling huge spells with both their action and bonus action in a single turn, and nobody else has anything like that.

Of course, that's largely extrapolation on my part. Larian knows this is an important rule and intentionally bypassed it, so maybe they have some balancing factors in place we're not yet aware of.

you can respec companions any way to like... apparently the only thing that's locked is the race choice... and yes casters can be front liners cos there is no AoO on casting. But there is threat range so

Each caster class has it's strengths and weaknesses and can easily adapt to fulfill a variety of party rolls depending on their spell loadout, school/domain, etc.

Attack of Opportunity. When next to someone in melee combat they are considered threatened. If the Disengage action is not taken all hostile creatures can choose to use their reaction for an attack when moving outside their attack range.

In P&P 5e? Wizards continue to be the highest tiered class.

In a videogame though? It disgusts me to say this but Sorc is probably sitting up there.

What makes wizards top tier is the fact they have answers to literally everything with proper planning they can use knowledge skills to prepare for. Videogames tend to not have the situations available for those answers to matter so sorc with their limited amount of spells can usually answer any videogame roadblocks plus they get bonuses that are just helpful.

Sorc/Wizard prolly. Maybe Cleric depending on how many undead/demons/devils there are.

Highest Char Lvl is 12 which means 6th lvl spells. So Wizard/Sorc casting Chain Lightning or Disintegrate are probably the two strongest spells in pure damage at base.

All druids can shift into animals, but only Moon druids get the powerful combat forms, as far as BG3 options go.
