DnD Lore question
Would Lolth have male paladins? also are Seldarine and Lolth-sworn actually separate races, or just affiliations race wide? Since you dont actually select a god as a paladin, at least rn, maybe this wont even be special or have special dialogue, but instead of a previous monk idea I had, I was curious about the viability of a Good guy Seldarine drow (I don't think good guys are Lolth-sworn?), who is an oathbreaker, specifically who broke their oath to Lolth.

lolth-sworn drow are the stereotypical evil ones that everyone is afraid of, the drow that raid the surface and and kill entire towns and haul a bunch off as slaves back into the underdark. so yeah if you want to play a good aligned drow that fits the lore then it would be seldarine. if im not mistaken the drow that follow lolth are matriarchal and the males have no status or rank in their society, they are basically slaves. idk if this is the same for the drow that broke away but probably not.

Generally any Drow that have found a conscious leave the rest of them behind in the Underdark or are eventually killed/turned into Driders.

Lolth favors women. Men aren't treated very well in their society.

Paladin Oaths don't align with Lolth very well, except Oathbreaker.

I did know that Drow were matriarchal, which is actually why I wanted to play the male drow. My goal is for the character to essentially be distrusted/looked down on heavily. My understanding was that Seldarine Drow by default are constantly fighting an uphill battle to earn the trust of others, and male drow are likely still looked down on by female ones, plus of course every Lolth worshipper will hate a Drow who isn't.

Is paladin a class that requires status within a community? I tend to figure that Drow matriarchs would likely throw male Drow into the fray as their frontline fighters, and use them as such, but maybe I am wrong about that, since I'm not super familiar with the lore
The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.

idk i'd say a seldarine oath of vengence pally fits the lore. a lot of this stuff is new and i havnt read any of the D&D novels in a long time, used to just be 1 kind of drow.

Thats a really good idea! Thanks for that. Sounds like it might end up really fun to play as either a pure paladin, or paladin sorcerer

Sure, but the current Oaths available in the game aren't a great fit for a Lolth paladin, Oath of Conquest or Oath of Glory would better fit a Lolth-Sworn Drow.

Typically when referenced Lolth-Sworn and Seldarine are seperate factions, representing the struggle between good and evil, however BG3 specifically uses them as seperate sub-species of drow as well.

I mean maybe? It's very unlikely as I doubt an Oath of Conquest or Glory paladin would defect from being Lolth-Sworn, and even if they did, you can still uphold those Oaths as a Seladarine drow

Thanks! I'm really excited to see the mechanics of multi-classing and will be going Sorlock.
A Paladin+Sorcerer (Sorcadin) is apparently really powerful. Always start out as a Paladin for heavy armor. Go Storm Sorcery for Sorcerer. You could even add a couple levels of warlock to make it even more powerful.

With all this in mind, while the idea might technically work, it seems like the Lex's idea will work best, where the drow escaped and became a paladin for a different god, under the Oath of Vengeance. Multiclass into sorcerer once early from there since I wanna make use of the dialogue options they might have, aim for a 6/6 Sorcadin. I think this will give up 1 feat, but overall I shouldn't need it.

Thanks for all the advice! Idk if I'll choose storm sorcery in the end, I'll have to read into what all the different sorcerer types do, but I'll definitely give it a good look!
